Objectives: The purpose of this research was to develop a method for monitoring personal exposure to benzyl violet 4B (BV) and direct blue 15 (DB) in workplace air for risk assessment.
Methods: We evaluated the utility of the proposed method by examining the following: recovery; method limit of quantification; reproducibility; and storage stability of the samples.
Results: An air sampling cassette containing a glass fiber filter was chosen as the sampler. BV and DB were extracted from the sampler filters with a solution of water and methanol (7:3, v/v) and then analyzed by a high-performance liquid chromatograph equipped with a photo-diode array detector. The overall recoveries from spiked samplers were 94-102% and 94-99% for BV and DB, respectively. The recovery after seven days of storage at 4°C exceeded 95%. The method limits of quantification were 0.250 and 1.25 μg/sample for BV and DB, respectively. The relative standard deviations, which represent the overall reproducibility defined as precision, were 0.6-4.1% and 0.8-2.9% for BV and DB, respectively.
Conclusions: The proposed method enables 4 h personal exposure monitoring of BV and DB at concentrations of 1-2,000 μg/m for BV and 5-2,000 μg/m for DB, with a 240 l sampling. Thus, the proposed method is useful for estimating worker exposure to BV and DB.

Grouping of chemicals has been proposed as a strategy to speed up the screening and identification of potential substances of concern among the broad chemical universe under REACH. Such grouping is usually based on shared structural features and should only be used for the prioritization objectives. However, additional considerations (as well as structural similarity) are needed, e.

The extensive presence of per-/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in the environment and their adverse effects on organisms have garnered increasing concern. With the shift of industrial development from legacy to emerging PFASs, expanding the understanding of molecular responses to legacy and emerging PFASs is essential to accurately assess their risks to organisms. Compared with traditional toxicological approaches, omics technologies including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics/lipidomics, and microbiomics allow comprehensive analysis of the molecular changes that occur in organisms after PFAS exposure.

Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) generally has a favorable prognosis, and radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy is typically used for metastatic DTC that continues to progress and poses life-threatening risks. However, resistance to RAI in metastatic DTC significantly impairs treatment effectiveness. This study aims to identify potential compounds that may influence RAI efficacy.

The industrialization and urbanization along the Pearl River Delta (PRD) have exacerbated the issue of pollution in aquatic environments by organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs). Historical cumulative pollution from legacy OPFRs, combined with newly emerging OPFRs, has increased the severity and complexity of OPFR pollution in this region. We explored the contamination profile, input flux and risk of legacy and emerging OPFRs in surface waters and in sediment samples of the PRD.

Tire wear particles (TWP) are one of the main sources of microplastic (MP) pollution in the marine environment, causing adverse effects on marine life and attracting increasing attention. This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition of TWP (particles and leachate) and their toxic effects on Brachionus plicatilis. The results showed that Zn and acenaphthene were the most frequently detected compounds in the three TWP treatments.
