A rapid method to high-yield synthesis of modified graphite by microwave irradiation of partially oxidized graphite (oxidized by HSO and KMnO) is reported. During the microwave irradiation, electrical arc induced flame combustion of MnO and vaporization and decomposition of HSO to form O and SO, which helped to decompose graphite within 30 s. The modified graphite boosts its ability to support the intercalation and diffusion of Li ions. As an anode material for lithium ion batteries, the modified graphite displays high reversible capacity of 373 mA·h/g, approaching the theoretical value of 372 mA·h/g. Long cycling performance of 410 charge-discharge cycles shows the capacity is retained at 370 mA·h/g, demonstrating superior stability. The improved cycling stability is attributed to the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interface film with the help of in situ formed S-based compounds on a graphite sheet. This work demonstrated a simple and effective method to alter carbon structures for improving energy storage ability.

In this work, graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) prepared by thermal treatment, graphitic carbon nitride/chitosan (GCS), and graphitic carbon nitride/chitosan embedded thiosemicarbazide (TGCS) were developed as an effective solid adsorbent. The fabricated adsorbents were characterized by nitrogen adsorption, ATR-FTIR, TGA, XRD, ζ potential, SEM, and TEM, where TGCS composite had a higher surface area (536.79 m/g), total pore volume (0.

The results of a comprehensive investigation into the structure and properties of nanodiamond soot (NDS), obtained from the detonation of various explosive precursors (trinitrotoluene, a trinitrotoluene/hexogen mixture, and tetryl), are presented. The colloidal behavior of the NDS particles in different liquid media was studied. The results of the scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements, and laser diffraction analysis suggested a similarity in the morphology of the NDS particle aggregates and agglomerates.

The measurement of thermal conductivities of anisotropic materials and atomically thin films is pivotal for the thermal design of next-generation electronic devices. Frequency-domain thermoreflectance (FDTR) is a pump-probe technique that is known for its accurate and straightforward approach to determining thermal conductivity and stands out as one of the most effective methodologies. Existing research has focused on advancing a measurement system that incorporates beam-offset FDTR.
