Introduction And Objectives: To estimate the contribution of interventional cardiology (IC) to the collective dose in Spain.

Methods: Using the information on frequencies of examinations sourced from the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the patient dose values obtained by the national DOCCACI programme.

Results: The fraction of the collective dose per million inhabitants derived from IC was 34 man-Sv (a total of 1600 man-Sv in Spain with 46.5 million inhabitants). The contribution of the IC derived from the medical use of x-rays in Spain resulted in 0.66% of the procedures and 4% of the x-ray collective dose.

Conclusions: Even if this collective radiation dose may seem moderate, at an individual level this medical practice delivers the greatest doses and, therefore, optimisation remains of paramount importance.

Introduction: Functional beverages are increasingly popular but it is important to validate their purported effects through research. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of a new functional energy shot on cognitive performance and mood states in healthy adults, with a focus on measuring mental energy enhancement and attenuation of negative effects associated with extended performance of mentally demanding tasks.

Methods: This study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) poses a significant threat to global health, with millions of new infections and approximately one million deaths annually. Various modeling efforts have emerged, offering tailored data-driven and physiologically-based solutions for novel and historical compounds. However, this diverse modeling panorama may lack consistency, limiting result comparability.

Background: Myocardial infarction represents a coronary artery ailment with the highest incidence and fatality rates among cardiovascular conditions. However, effective pharmacological interventions remain elusive. This study seeks to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of on myocardial infarction through network pharmacology and experimental validation.

Are psychological attitudes towards vaccination an expression of personality? A cross-sectional study on COVID-19 vaccination in France.

BMC Public Health

January 2025

Emerging Diseases Epidemiology Unit, Institut Pasteur, 25-28 Rue du Docteur Roux, Bâtiment Laveran, Paris, 75015, France.

Background: The capacity of the 7C model's psychological antecedents, which include confidence in vaccines, complacency, convenience, calculation, collective responsibility, confidence in the wider system, and social conformism, to explain variance in COVID-19 vaccine intentions and behaviours has been documented. However, it remains unclear whether the attitudes represented by the 7C psychological antecedents are specific to vaccination or if they are, in fact, an expression of underlying personality traits.

Methods: From February to June 2022, French adults completed self-administered questionnaires assessing COVID-19 vaccination history, the 7C antecedents, and personality traits ("ComCor" and "Cognitiv" studies).

Pre-eclampsia remains a significant health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa, contributing substantially to maternal and neonatal mortality rates. This paper explores the potential of low-dose calcium supplementation as an alternative strategy to the conventional high-dose regimen in preventing pre-eclampsia. A consistent association between low serum calcium levels and an increased risk of pre-eclampsia is established based on studies spanning Ghana, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
