Objective: To explore the role of echocardiography in pre-procedural,peri-procedural and post-procedural stages of transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in patients with aortic regurgitation (AR).
Methods: 31 patients with pure/dominant AR at a high risk on surgery were enrolled in this study. The degree of their aortic regurgitation was evaluated before TAVI,as well as the related diameters of aortic root and the left ventricular systolic function measured by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). TEE was used to reevaluate the valve pathology after general anesthesia. TEE in combination with fluoroscopy provided accurate position of the prosthetic valve for implantation. TEE was also used to monitor complications and to evaluate immediate post-procedure paravalvular regurgitation. The post TAVI follow-up included valve heamodynamic status, complications, left ventricular systolic function and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) measured by TEE.
Results: Transapical TAVI was successful in 29 of the 31 patients: 23 experienced no or little paravalvular regurgitation; 6 had mild paravalvular regurgitation. The left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVDd) and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) of the patients decreased significantly one week after TAVI,which progressed until one month later ( <0.05) . The left ventricular ejection (EF) of the patients also decreased one week after TAVI ( <0.05) ,but it resumed to the pre-procedural level one month later.
Conclusion: Transapical TAVI is a potentially safe and effective therapy for patients with pure/dominant AR at a high risk on open-heart surgery. Echocardiography plays an important role in pre-procedural evaluation,peri-procedural monitoring and post-procedural follow-up in TAVI.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by progressive atrophy of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, with concomitant increase in ventricular volume. Lomecel-B is a novel cell-based therapeutic approach to AD that targets neuroinflammation, microvascular dysfunction, and has the potential to stimulate endogenous tissue regeneration. We conducted MRI analysis of brain morphology in the CLEAR-MIND study, a 49-patient proof-of-concept study that tested 3 different dosing regimens of Lomecel-B vs placebo in patients with mild AD dementia.

Objectives: The size, shape, and contractility of the heart's atrial chambers have not been evaluated in fetuses with growth restriction (FGR) or who are small-for-gestational-age (SGA) as defined by the Delphi consensus protocol. This study aimed to examine the atrial chambers using speckle tracking analysis to identify any changes that may be specific for either growth disturbance.
Methods: Sixty-three fetuses were evaluated with an estimated fetal weight <10th percentile who were classified as FGR or SGA based on the Delphi consensus protocol.

The efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has been established, but the efficacy and safety of cryoballoon ablation (CBA) and pulsed field ablation (PFA) remain unclear. This retrospective cohort study included 223 patients with paroxysmal non-valvular AF and HFpEF who underwent their first AF ablation between January 2017 and December 2021 and were divided into RFA (n = 77), CBA (n = 127), and PFA (n = 19) groups. After a mean follow-up of 11.

Introduction: Hyperuricemia (HU) is associated with an increased risk of incident heart failure (HF) and adverse HF outcomes. Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) have a greater prevalence of HU.
Aims: We evaluated the prognostic impact of HU in patients with HF according to the coexistence of DM.

Background: Increased levels of platelet distribution width (PDW) can predict cardiac death and infarction recurrence in acute myocardial infarction. PDW appears to be a prognosis marker in acute heart failure (HF); however, its impact on chronic HF is still unknown. We investigated the impact of PDW on chronic HF.
