Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate hemodynamics and coil distribution with changing coil stiffness and length using the finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis.
Methods: Basic side-wall and bifurcation type aneurysm models were used. Six types of coil models were generated by changing the coil stiffness and length, based on commercially available embolic coils. Coil embolization was simulated using FEM. CFD was performed to characterize the hemodynamics in the aneurysms after embolization. Coil distribution and velocity reduction in the aneurysms were evaluated.
Results: The median value of radial coil distribution was shifted from the center to the outer side of the aneurysmal dome by changing coil stiffness: harder coils entered the outer side of the aneurysmal dome more easily. Short coils were more distributed at the neck region, since their small size made it easy for them to enter the tighter area. CFD results also indicated that velocity in the aneurysm was effectively reduced when the coils were more distributed at the neck region and the outer side of the aneurysmal dome because of the disturbance in blood inflow.
Conclusions: It is easier for coils to enter the outer side of the aneurysmal sphere when they are harder. If coils are short, they can enter tighter areas more easily. In addition, high coil density at the outer side of the aneurysmal dome and at the neck region is important to achieve effective velocity reduction.

Vascular-like tissues composed of cells maintaining their shape and structure at any position in a culture dish without the use of gels or other artificial materials are ideal vascular models to test the effects of candidate drugs on cells without adsorption by artificial materials and analysis of structural changes over time. In this study, we aimed to prepare fiber-shaped cell aggregates composed of human umbilical vein endothelial and mesenchymal stem cells as vascular pericytes anchored to the bottom of culture dishes at a defined location using our developed cell self-aggregation technique and dumbbell-shaped culture groove. The fiber-shaped cell aggregates maintained their shape for at least two weeks without rupture, and histological analysis revealed that they formed a unique tissue structure with a gapless endothelial layer on the outer surface and capillary-like structures oriented in the same direction as the long axis of the fiber in the medial side.

To clarify the cause of graded distribution of sucrose in apple fruit flesh, a quarter cut of young apple fruit was cultured for 72 h on agar-solidified MS medium supplemented with 0.5 M [1-C]sorbitol, with the longitudinal or horizontal cut face being attached with the medium, and distribution of C-labelled sucrose in a specimen obtained by slicing the fruit along with the cut face was visualized utilizing MALDI-TOF MSI. Heat map images on the distribution of the peaks of sorbitol containing C-atom indicated that external [1-C]sorbitol had penetrated evenly into the tissue.

Salinity gradient power (SGP) by reverse electrodialysis is a promising method for converting SGP into electricity. Instead of the conventional approach of using seawater and freshwater, an alternative method involves using highly concentrated salt solutions (brines) alongside seawater or brackish water. Key factors influencing SGP via reverse electrodialysis (SGP-RE) include the properties of ion exchange membranes, particularly their thickness.

The precise manipulation of PANoptosis, a newly defined cell death pathway encompassing pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis, is highly desired to achieve safer cancer immunotherapy with tumor-specific inflammatory responses and minimal side effects. Nonetheless, this objective remains a formidable challenge. Herein, an "AND" logic-gated strategy for accurately localized PANoptosis activation, utilizing composite 3D-printed bioactive glasses scaffolds integrated with epigenetic regulator-loaded porous piezoelectric SrTiO nanoparticles is proposed.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells may have neuroprotective and tissue regenerative capabilities and the potential to rescue retinal degeneration in chorioretinal diseases including myopic chorioretinal atrophy. Transplantation of human (allogeneic) adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cell (adMSC) suspensions has been clinically conducted to treat retinal degenerative diseases. However, serious side effects including proliferative vitreoretinopathy and epiretinal membrane formation have been reported.
