A distinct shift of bacterial community driven by organic matter (OM) and powder activated carbon (PAC) was discovered in the simultaneous anammox and denitrification (SAD) process which was operated in an anti-fouling submerged anaerobic membrane bio-reactor. Based on anammox performance, optimal OM dose (50 mg/L) was advised to start up SAD process successfully. The results of qPCR and high throughput sequencing analysis indicated that OM played a key role in microbial community evolutions, impelling denitrifiers to challenge anammox's dominance. The addition of PAC not only mitigated the membrane fouling, but also stimulated the enrichment of denitrifiers, accounting for the predominant phylum changing from Planctomycetes to Proteobacteria in SAD process. Functional genes forecasts based on KEGG database and COG database showed that the expressions of full denitrification functional genes were highly promoted in R, which demonstrated the enhanced full denitrification pathway driven by OM and PAC under low COD/N value (0.11).

Sudden gains in internet cognitive therapy for social anxiety disorder in routine clinical practice.

Internet Interv

December 2024

Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (OxCADAT), Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, The Old Rectory, Paradise Square, Oxford OX1 1TW, UK.

Background: Sudden gains are large symptom improvements between consecutive therapy sessions. They have been shown to occur in randomised controlled trials of internet-delivered psychological interventions, but little is known about their occurrence when such treatments are delivered in routine clinical practice.

Objective: This study examined the occurrence of sudden gains in a therapist-guided internet-delivered Cognitive Therapy intervention for social anxiety disorder (iCT-SAD) delivered in the UK NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression (formerly known as IAPT services).

Objectives: While neuropsychological effects of conventional antidepressants are well-documented, more research is needed for rapid-acting antidepressants. This study examines the effects of esketamine on emotion processing and cognitive functioning, both acutely and sub-chronically.

Methods: Eighteen treatment-resistant depression (TRD) patients received repeated intravenous esketamine infusions.

Background: There is a lack of information on the current healthcare systems for children with kidney diseases across Europe. The aim of this study was to explore the different national approaches to the organization and delivery of pediatric nephrology services within Europe.

Methods: In 2020, the European society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) conducted a cross-sectional survey to identify the existing pediatric nephrology healthcare systems in 48 European countries covering a population of more than 200 million children.

Effect of table height on supraglottic airway insertion (I-gel): A randomized control trial.

J Anaesthesiol Clin Pharmacol

July 2024

Department of Anaesthesia, AIIMS, Patna, Bihar, India.

Background And Aims: Both operating table height and patient level in relation to the anesthesiologist influence supraglottic airway device (SAD) insertion and task performance in terms of physical and mental workload. The aim of the study was to find out the appropriate table height during SAD insertion in terms of time taken for insertion, success rate, ease of insertion, and anesthesiologist comfort.

Material And Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 90 American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I and II patients, aged between 18 and 60 years, scheduled for elective surgery were recruited.
