Purpose: Perioperative metabolic acidosis negatively affects patient outcomes. Perioperative fluid therapy has a clinically significant effect on acid-base balance. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of isotonic sodium bicarbonate infusion (ISB) versus balanced crystalloid solution (BCS) on perioperative acid-base balance, in terms of postoperative base excess, among patients undergoing emergency laparotomy for perforation peritonitis.

Sandhoff disease (SD) is a progressive neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorder characterized by GM2 ganglioside accumulation as a result of mutations in the gene, which encodes the β-subunit of the enzyme β-hexosaminidase. Lysosomal storage of GM2 triggers inflammation in the CNS and periphery. The NLRP3 inflammasome is an important coordinator of pro-inflammatory responses, and we have investigated its regulation in murine SD.

The combination therapy of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab (LP) is increasingly recognized as an important second-line regimen for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (EC). However, the safety and efficacy of conversion surgery with low anterior rectal resection for unresectable EC following LP therapy is unknown. Given the ever-evolving landscape of antimicrobial resistance, the emergence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1) has introduced a formidable challenge to global public health. In previous research, we identified the Compound Zndm19 as an NDM-1 inhibitor and reported Zndm19 derivatives, which exhibited moderate antibacterial activity when combined with meropenem (MEM). This moderate activity may have been due to the inability of Zndm19 to efficiently penetrate the bacterial outer membrane or its susceptibility to hydrolysis, which prevented it from exerting strong enzyme inhibition in synergy with bacterial cells.

Objective: Cesarean sections (CS) are among the most performed surgical procedures in the world. Small variations in surgical techniques could have a significant impact on a global scale, for example, in postoperative complications. In the present study we aimed to observe and audit every single step used during first time CS.
