Case: Anterior distal femoral hemiepiphysiodesis for knee flexion deformity in children is typically done using staples or plate-and-screw constructs. Staple migration and postoperative knee pain are common complications associated with these procedures. The authors describe a new technique of percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws (PETS) for anterior hemiepiphysiodesis of the distal aspect of the femur that was used to treat recurrent knee flexion deformity in a child with cerebral palsy who had recurrent crouch gait after hamstring lengthening.
Conclusion: The technique has the advantage of being less expensive than plate-and-screw constructs, and it has the potential for causing less postoperative knee pain.

Purpose Of The Study: Temporary hemiepiphyseodesis using figure-eight plates is currently one of the main surgical techniques to correct axial deformities of lower limbs in paediatric patients. Comprehensive analysis, correct indication and monitoring of treatment are the basic prerequisites for successful therapy. The aim of the study was to analyse parameters that could become an alternative to standard parameters used nowadays, namely the inserted screw angle (SA), and a new parameter - condylar ratio (CR).

The objective of this study was to analyze the treatment of recurrent valgus knee in fibular hemimelia patients with hemiepiphysiodesis and define associated variables for deformity relapse. Sixteen consecutive patients with fibular hemimelia treated with hemiepiphysiodesis (57 physis) were compared to 21 physis of idiopathic cases, in terms of magnitude, speed, and time of correction. Correction of valgus deformity was successfully achieved in all cases.

: To investigate postoperative courses after hemi-percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws (PETS) for genu varum. We especially focused on the degree of skeletal maturation that results in undercorrection. : We identified patients with idiopathic genu varum treated with hemi-PETS at the proximal tibia and followed-up to the completion of skeletal maturation.
