In acute experiments on anesthetized puppies of one-day to three months of age the influence of orthostatic posture (30 degrees) on the lymph flow and arterial pressure was studied. One-day old puppies developed an increase in arterial pressure whereas older animals developed opposite changes. The lymph flow was drastically diminished in orthostatic posture and increased when the animals returned to the initial position. The time course and the intensity of the alterations in the lymph flow depended on the age. In growing animals subjected to passive orthostatic tests the characteristics of alterations in the lymph flow were related to morphological and functional development of the lymphatic channel in postnatal ontogenesis.
