The fabrication and application of bioactive hydroxyapatite has always been a research hot spot in the fields of orthopaedics. Now it is common to use calcium (Ca) salt as Ca source to synthesise hydroxyapatite. And egg shell could be another promising raw material as Ca source, which is not only economical but also biogenic. In this study, egg shell (ES)-hydroxyapatite was prepared by using egg shells via hydrothermal method. Furthermore, ES-Sr hydroxyapatite was synthesized by incorporation of bioactive element strontium (Sr) into ES-hydroxyapatite. The in vitro experiment showed that compared with hydroxyapatite, ES-hydroxyapatite showed better biological performances, which could be attributed to the trace elements in egg shell, such as magnesium (Mg). And the incorporation of Sr could further enhance the bioactivity. These results indicated that apatite with high biological activity, which had great application prospects in orthopedics, could be produced by egg shells and the incorporation of Sr.

Probiotics benefit the health and production performance of chickens, but their impact on egg and eggshell quality, particularly in the later stage, remains unclear. Here, 1-day-old Tianfu green shell-laying hens were fed either non-probiotics feed (n = 180) or feed supplemented with 100 mg / kg probiotics (n = 180). 16S rDNA sequencing indicated that dietary probiotics decreased the distribution of uterine p_Firmicutes, g_Fusobacterium, and s_Fusobacterium_unclassified, while increased p_Proteobacteria, g_Ralstonia, and s_Ralstonia_unclassified.

Maternal nutritional status plays a crucial role in embryonic development and has persistent effects on postnatal chicks. Vitamin C (VC) plays an important role in embryonic and postnatal development involved in nutri-epigenetics. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding (IOF) of VC on embryonic development, egg hatching time, and chick rectal temperature.

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) is a new and promising strategy for eliminating foodborne pathogenic bacteria in food preservation, reducing associated health risks for consumers. This study aimed to develop an innovative PDI-based system to inactivate Salmonella Enteritidis PT4 on eggshells. The system includes 405 nm light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and the application of curcumin or carvacrol as photosensitizers.

Brood care relies on interactions between parents and offspring. Emergence of nestlings from their nest has been hypothesized to rely on the readout by the parent of the maturational state of the young. Theoretical considerations predict a conflict: parents should push for early emergence, if possible, to reduce care demands and maximize the number of reproductive cycles, whereas offspring should delay leaving to maximize resource allocation and protection by the parents.

Egg quality is affected by lot of factors. Study was conducted to compare performance of data mining algorithms; Classification and regression tree (CART), Chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID), Exhaustive chi-square automatic interaction detection (Ex-CHAID) and Multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) in prediction of Potchefstroom Koekoek's eggshell thickness from egg quality traits. 350 eggs were collected at 31st to 39th week to examine the egg quality traits.
