A free-air ionization chamber FAC-IR-300, designed by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, is used as the primary Iranian national standard for the photon air kerma. For accurate air kerma measurements, the contribution from the scattered photons to the total energy released in the collecting volume must be eliminated. One of the sources of scattered photons is the chamber's diaphragm. In this paper, the diaphragm scattering correction factor, k, and the diaphragm transmission correction factor, k, were introduced. These factors represent corrections to the measured charge (or current) for the photons scattered from the diaphragm surface and the photons penetrated through the diaphragm volume, respectively. The k and k values were estimated by Monte Carlo simulations. The simulations were performed for the mono-energetic photons in the energy range of 20 - 300keV. According to the simulation results, in this energy range, the k values vary between 0.9997 and 0.9948, and k values decrease from 1.0000 to 0.9965. The corrections grow in significance with increasing energy of the primary photons.

Varian Halcyon (HA) linear accelerators (LINAC) require kilovoltage cone-beam computed tomography (CT) acquisition for all patients before all treatment fractions. The aim of this study is to compare dose indices of various available protocols with different calculation and measurement methods. CT dose index (CTDI) in mGy is a measure of the radiation dose output of a CT scanner.

Article Synopsis
  • Absolute measurement of X-ray radiant power is crucial for fields like astrophysics and diagnostics.
  • This study compared two measurement methods: a free-air ionization chamber and a cryogenic electrical substitution radiometer, at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
  • The results showed a minimal difference of 0.47%, indicating that both methods are reliable and agree within a combined uncertainty of 3.35%.

Accurate radiation dosimetry is required for radiation protection in various environments. Therefore, dosemeters and dose-rate meters must be calibrated in standard radiation fields. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) expands the energy range of x-ray reference field measurement up to 450 kV using a cylindrical graphite-walled cavity ionization chamber.

Accurate dose measurement is very important for diagnosing X-ray equipment. These equipment should be traced directly or indirectly to primary standard with as little uncertainty as possible. A parallel-plate free-air chamber was designed to measure air kerma of diagnostic X-ray absolutely.

Virus-like particles (VLPs) are proteinaceous shells derived from viruses lacking any viral genomic material. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a non-enveloped icosahedral virus used as VLP delivery system in gene therapy (GT). Its success as vehicle for GT is due to its selective tropism, high level of transduction, and low immunogenicity.
