Purpose: Vascular impairments, including reduced capillary density (CD), impaired autoregulation capacity (Reg), and elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), have been identified as significant contributors to glaucomatous disease. This study implemented a theoretical model to quantify the impact of these impairments on retinal blood flow and oxygenation as intraluminal pressure (Pa) is varied.
Methods: A theoretical model of the retinal vasculature was used to simulate reductions in CD by 10% (early glaucoma) and 30% to 50% (advanced glaucoma), a range in autoregulation capacity from 0% (totally impaired) to 100% (totally functional), and normal (15 mm Hg) and elevated (25 mm Hg) levels of IOP.

The relationship between symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and objective reflux measurements obtained through multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) monitoring remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between LPR symptoms and objective reflux episodes and possible associations between fibreoptic ENT findings, eosinophil counts, and serum IgE levels with reflux episodes detected by MII-pH. In this prospective study, MII-pH monitoring, fiberoptic laryngoscopy, nasal swabs for eosinophils, total serum IgE levels, and symptom assessment (Reflux Symptom Index, RSI) were performed in all children with suspected LPR.

Achalasia cardia is a primary motility disorder of the esophagus marked by the absence of peristalsis and the failure of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to relax during swallowing. The preferred surgical approach is laparoscopic Heller's cardiomyotomy with Dor's fundoplication. Given the significant risks of mucosal perforation and the possibility of incomplete myotomy, which can lead to symptom recurrence, it is essential to ensure both the completeness of the myotomy and the preservation of the mucosal integrity.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the necessity of intraluminal washout through cytological assessment to prevent implantation of exfoliated cancer cells (ECCs) in patients with rectal and sigmoid cancers.
Methods: We studied 140 patients with either sigmoid or rectal cancer who underwent anastomosis surgery using a double-stapling technique. An intraluminal washout sample was collected before and after irrigation with 1000, 1500, or 2000 mL of physiological saline or distilled water.

In dogs, the characterization of intraluminal uterine contents has been subjectively carried out by the operators. The aims of this study were: 1) To ultrasonographically describe and compare the echogenicity and heterogeneity of the intraluminal uterine contents in bitches using digital analysis; 2) To assess the cytology of the uterine contents; 3) To evaluate the effect of clinical, ultrasonographic, bacteriological and cytological parameters on intraluminal contents echogenicity and heterogeneity. Twenty-one intact, 3-24 kg, 1-12 years of age, female dogs with ultrasonographically detected uterine content were included.
