Osteoporosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a complex problem, with diagnostic criteria and treatment plans often debated. The debate creates a practice dilemma for clinicians faced with an aging population and an increasing incidence of fragility fractures. This article discusses the dilemma as seen from the perspective of the nephrology clinician on differentiating osteoporosis from other bone mineral disorders in patients with progressive CKD in order to provide the most efficacious and safe care.

Gaucher disease is a rare lysosomal storage disorder characterized by the accumulation of glucocerebroside lipids within multiple organs due to a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme (acid β-glucosidase). It is an inherited autosomal recessive disease. The onset of symptoms can vary depending on disease type and severity, with milder forms presenting in adulthood.

Context: There are limited real-world data evidence assessing the clinical characteristics of hospitalized osteoporotic fractures in China.
Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of hospitalized major osteoporotic fractures in Northeast China.
Methods: We identified hospitalized fracture patients aged 50 and over from the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinzhou Medical University between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022.
Homocystinuria due to cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) deficiency is a rare metabolic disorder inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. Spectrum of genetic variants in gene and their correlation with the phenotypes of homocystinuria in Sri Lankan patients have not been reported to date. The objective of this study was to identify the genotypes and genotype-phenotype correlations in a cohort of Sri Lankan patients with homocystinuria due to CBS deficiency.

Background: The medial malleolus is involved in up to 50 % of ankle fractures. When surgery is required, a thorough understanding of bone mass distribution within the distal tibia is crucial for selecting and positioning screws to ensure stable fixation. Despite its clinical significance, data on the bone mass distribution in the distal tibia remains limited.

Bone health after lung transplantation has not been comprehensively reviewed in over two decades. This narrative review summarizes available literature on bone health in the context of lung transplantation, including epidemiology, presentation and post-operative management. Osteoporosis is reported in approximately 30-50% of lung transplant candidates, largely due to disease-related impact on bone and lifestyle, and corticosteroid-related effects during end-stage lung disease (interstitial lung diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and historically cystic fibrosis).
