The current status of research on the major histocompatibility complex of the goat (GLA) is discussed, as well as its similarities to other species, although some of the results are preliminary.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by circulating anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) autoantibodies (ACPAs), resulting in inflammation of the joints and other organs. We have established novel assays to assess immune cell subpopulations, including citrullinated antigen-specific (CAS) autoreactive B and T lymphocytes, in patients with RA.
Methods And Results: We found that activated CD25 T cells were markedly increased in patients with RA compared to healthy controls.

Long-term, immunosuppression-free allograft survival has been induced in human and nonhuman primate (NHP) kidney recipients after nonmyeloablative conditioning and donor bone marrow transplantation (DBMT), resulting in transient mixed hematopoietic chimerism. However, the same strategy has consistently failed in NHP heart transplant recipients. Here, we investigated whether long-term heart allograft survival could be achieved by cotransplanting kidneys from the same donor.

Lewy bodies and neurofibrillary tangles, composed of α-synuclein (α-syn) and tau, respectively, often are found together in the same brain and correlate with worsening cognition. Human postmortem studies show colocalization of α-syn and tau occurs in Lewy bodies, but with limited effort to quantify colocalization. In this study, postmortem middle temporal gyrus tissue from decedents (n = 9) without temporal lobe disease (control) or with Lewy body disease (LBD) was immunofluorescently labeled with antibodies to phosphorylated α-syn (p-α-syn), tau phosphorylated at Ser202/Thr205 (p-tau), or exposure of tau's phosphatase-activating domain (PAD-tau) as a marker of early tau aggregates.

T cells mediate pathogenesis of several autoimmune disorders by recognizing self-epitopes presented on Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) or Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) complex. The majority of autoantigens presented to T cells in various autoimmune disorders are not known, which has impeded autoantigen identification. Recent advances in immunopeptidomics have started to unravel the repertoire of antigenic epitopes presented on MHC.
