  • Significant increases in the mRNA expression of relevant target genes were observed in key organ tissues linked to childbirth, reinforcing the clinical relevance of BSS in facilitating easier labor.

Article Abstract

(BSS) has been commonly used in oriental medicine for pregnant women in East Asia. The purpose of this research was to elucidate the effect of BSS on ease of parturition using a systems-level in silico analytic approach. Research results show that BSS is highly connected to the parturition related pathways, biological processes, and organs. There were numerous interactions between most compounds of BSS and multiple target genes, and this was confirmed using herb-compound-target network, target-pathway network, and gene ontology analysis. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of relevant target genes of BSS was elevated significantly in related organ tissues, such as those of the uterus, placenta, fetus, hypothalamus, and pituitary gland. This study used a network analytical approach to demonstrate that Bulsu-san (BSS) is closely related to the parturition related pathways, biological processes, and organs. It is meaningful that this systems-level network analysis result strengthens the basis of clinical applications of BSS on ease of parturition.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs) hold great promise for supporting ground-based sensors due to the mobility of UAVs and the ease of establishing line-of-sight links. UAV-based WSNs equipped with mobile edge computing (MEC) servers effectively mitigate challenges associated with long-distance transmission and the limited coverage of edge base stations (BSs), emerging as a powerful paradigm for both communication and computing services. Furthermore, incorporating simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) as passive relays significantly enhances the propagation environment and service quality of UAV-based WSNs.

Biosurfactants/bioemulsifiers (BSs/BEs) can be defined as surface-active biomolecules produced by microorganisms with a broad range of applications. In recent years, due to their unique properties like biodegradability, specificity, low toxicity, and relative ease of preparation, these biomolecules have attracted wide interest as an eco-friendly alternative for several industrial sectors, escalating global microbial BS/BE market growth. Recently, strain 1B, a bacterium with significant biotechnological potential, well known for its biodesulfurizing properties, carotenoid production, and broad catabolic range, was described as a BS/BE producer.

Bile salts (BS) are naturally occurring steroidal biosurfactants. The ease of functionalization of BSs has boosted their use as inexpensive building blocks for the fabrication of a broad set of value-added soft functional materials. In the present work, three fluorescent bile acid (FBA) derivatives have been synthesized by conjugating anthracene at the side chain of lithocholic acid, deoxycholic acid, and cholic acid to understand the effect of the nature of the steroid nucleus on their physicochemical properties.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a new technique using basic salt solution (BSS) during surgeries to effectively manage residual droplets of perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) after retinal detachment treatments.
  • The method involves injecting BSS around the eye to flush out PFCL droplets, leading to a significant reduction in complications related to PFCL in most patients.
  • The findings indicate that this technique could be adopted as a standard practice in surgeries involving PFCL, enhancing visibility and minimizing the risk of damage to the retina.

During the last few years, Bike Sharing Systems (BSS) have become a popular means of transportation in several cities across the world, owing to their low costs and associated advantages. Citizens have adopted these systems as they help improve their health and contribute to creating more sustainable cities. However, customer satisfaction and the willingness to use the systems are directly affected by the ease of access to the docking stations and finding available bikes or slots.
