Leakage of monomers from dental fillings due to incomplete curing is very common. The objective of the present study was to examine the cytokine profile in cells exposed to triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) and the adjuvant properties of TEGDMA. Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells were exposed to TEGDMA (500 and 1000 μM) for 24 h . Bio-Plex Pro™ assays were used for analysis and detection of cytokines. BALB/c mice were immunized subcutaneously in the base of the tail with TEGDMA in combination with ovalbumin (OVA). The cytokine levels of IL-8, IL-18, GRO-α and MCP-1 were significantly increased for both concentrations. IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α was only significantly increased in cultures exposed to 500 μM TEGDMA. The concentration of TNF-α was significantly decreased in cultures exposed to 1000 μM TEGDMA. Animals immunized with OVA co-administrated with TEGDMA had a significantly higher IgE and IgG anti-OVA antibody levels in blood than animals immunized with OVA only. TEGDMA affects production of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-18 and TNF-α. This inflammatogenic capacity renders TEGDMAs adjuvant properties, which may interfere with the homeostasis between the immune system and the indigenous microflora in the oral cavity.

Adjuvants can enhance an immunological response, which is an important part of vaccine research. Pickering bubbles have been a mega-hit for biomedical applications, including visualization and targeted drug delivery. However, there have been no studies on Pickering bubbles as an immunological adjuvant, and the special properties and structures of Pickering bubbles may play an important role in immunization.

Here, a high molecular weight polysaccharide preparation from Ophiocordyceps gracilis was utilized as a stabilizer and dispersant to create nanocomposites based on selenium nanoparticles (GSP-1a-SeNPs). The NPs showed the highest stability at a selenium/polysaccharide mass ratio of 1:1, with no significant change after 28 days of storage at 4 °C. The NPs exhibited a symmetrical spheroid structure with an average diameter of 85.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the digestive tract, often accompanied by a high risk of recurrence and drug resistance. Huaier (Trametes robiniophila Murr), a traditional Chinese medicinal fungus, has demonstrated potent anticancer properties and is widely used as an adjuvant treatment for liver, breast, gastric, colon, and non-small cell lung cancers. However, its effects and molecular mechanisms in GIST remain unclear.

The NorA and TetK efflux pumps mediate resistance to fluoroquinolone and tetracycline antibiotics by actively extruding these compounds and reducing their intracellular concentrations. Consequently, intense research has focused on inhibiting these efflux mechanisms using antimicrobial agents derived from natural or synthetic sources. This study used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) to analyze the various functional groups present in p-coumaric acid.

Importance: Given the favorable overall prognosis of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and the morbidity of increased adjuvant therapy associated with positive surgical margins, large-scale studies on the accuracy of frozen sections in predicting final surgical margin status in HPV-related OPSCC are imperative. Final surgical margin status is the definitive assessment of tumor clearance as determined through surgeon-pathologist collaboration based on permanent analysis of frozen section margins, main specimens, and supplemental resections.

Objectives: To assess the accuracy and testing properties of intraoperative frozen section histology (IFSH) in assessing final surgical margin status in patients undergoing transoral surgery for HPV-related OPSCC.
