Background: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) of the central nervous system (CNS) with synchronous or metachronous extra-CNS disease is a rare childhood malignancy with a dismal prognosis.
Case Description: We report a 7-week-old female with metastatic AT/RT and synchronous malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney who received an intensive multimodal approach combining surgical resection, intrathecal chemotherapy, and high-dose chemotherapy with autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplant (PBSCT). She is currently 24 months old without any evidence of disease. In addition, we completed an extensive literature review of cases with CNS AT/RT and synchronous or metachronous extra-CNS primary tumors. To date, 31 pediatric cases have been reported, and the median overall-survival was 6 months after diagnosis. The only 3 survivors received autologous PBSCT, and 2 of these patients had complete resection of their CNS tumor.
Conclusions: The rarity of CNS AT/RT with extra-CNS primary disease and the lack of standard treatment contribute to its reported dismal prognosis. We report a case of a long-term survivor with metastatic AT/RT and synchronous extra-CNS primary tumor. Maximal surgical resection, intrathecal chemotherapy, and consolidative autologous PBSCT may improve prognosis and avoid radiation.

Unlabelled: An increasing amount of evidence suggests the emerging role of the gut microbiota in the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to elucidate the architecture of microbial communities within normal and neoplastic colonic mucosa.
Methods: Microbiota were analyzed by NGS and by an ensemble of metagenomics analysis tools in a total of 69 tissues from 9 patients with synchronous colorectal neoplasia and adenomas (27 specimens: 9 from normal tissues, 9 adenomas, and 9 tumours), 16 patients with only colonic adenomas (32 specimens: 16 from normal tissues and 16 adenomas), and from healthy subjects (10 specimens of normal mucosa).

Rhabdoid tumors (RTs) of the brain (atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor; AT/RT) and extracranial sites (most often the kidney; RTK) are malignant tumors predominantly occurring in children, frequently those with germline alterations. Here we present data from seven RTs from three pediatric patients who all had multi-organ involvement. The tumors were analyzed using a multimodal molecular approach, which included exome sequencing of tumor and germline comparator and RNA sequencing and DNA array-based methylation profiling of tumors.

Rhabdoid tumor predisposition syndrome (RTPS) is defined as the presence of a or genetic aberration in a patient with malignant rhabdoid tumor. Patients with RTPS are more likely to present with synchronous or metachronous rhabdoid tumors. Based on the current state of rhabdoid tumor taxonomy, these diagnoses are based largely on patient demographics, anatomic location of disease, and immunohistochemistry, despite their nearly identical histologic and immunohistochemical profiles.
