A 35-year-old woman had undergone extensive thymothymectomy for type A thymoma several years ago. However, two small lung nodules were found 4 and 5 years after surgery. After a partial lung resection to remove these nodules, pathology revealed that they were metastases of the type A thymoma. A pathological re-evaluation confirmed that the primary tumor had in fact been an atypical type A thymoma variant, a subset added to the WHO classification in 2015. Pathology should be re-evaluated in all patients diagnosed with type A thymoma before 2015 since they may have the more aggressive atypical type A thymoma variant.

A 59-year-old woman presented with multiple mediastinal masses 6 months after post-thymectomy for type B2 thymoma. A diagnosis of small-cell carcinoma (SmCC) via a computed tomography-guided biopsy and fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed no primary lesions outside the anterior mediastinum. The pathologically reevaluated post-thymectomy specimen showed no neuroendocrine differentiation.

RETREG1/FAM134B is known for its role as a reticulophagy receptor. Our previous study established that RETREG1 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and contributes to disease progression by activating the AKT signaling pathway. However, the specific mechanisms underlying the elevated expression of RETREG1 in HCC remain unclear.

Adipose dystrophy, also known as lipodystrophy, is a heterogeneous disease characterized by the complete or partial loss of adipose tissue. In some cases, patients with lipodystrophy may exhibit fat accumulation in other areas of the body, as well as metabolic abnormalities such as insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, liver disease, and increased metabolic rate. The condition may also be associated with gene mutations, including those in acylglycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferase 2 (AGPAT2), Berardinelli-Seip Congenital Lipodystrophy 2 (BSCL2), caveolin-1 (CAV1), polymerase I and transcript release factor (PTRF), lamins A (LMNA), zinc metalloproteinase (ZMPSTE24), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG), v-AKT murine thymoma oncogene homolog 2 (AKT2), perilipin 1 (PLIN1), and proteasome subunit, β-type, 8 (PSMB8).

A 70-year-old man presented with the growth of an anterior mediastinal nodule on a follow-up computed tomography (CT) scan after undergoing lung cancer surgery. Positron emission tomography (PET)-CT performed at the time of lung cancer surgery did not recognize any accumulation, but PET-CT performed this time confirmed the accumulation of standardized uptake value( SUV) max 5.57.
