In this paper, we propose a new ultrafast layer based CGH calculation that exploits the sparsity of hologram fringe pattern in 3-D object layer. Specifically, we devise a sparse template holographic fringe pattern. The holographic fringe pattern on a depth layer can be rapidly calculated by adding the sparse template holographic fringe patterns at each object point position. Since the size of sparse template holographic fringe pattern is much smaller than that of the CGH plane, the computational load can be significantly reduced. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 10-20 msec for 1024x1024 pixels providing visually plausible results.

Digital holographic microscopy retrieves amplitude and phase information of an image which allows us to computationally correct for imperfections in the imaging optics. However, digital holographic microscopy is an interferometric technique that is inherently sensitive to undesired phase variations between object and reference beam. These phase variations lower the fringe contrast if they are integrated over a finite exposure time which leads to a reduced amplitude of the retrieved image.

Our method employs a common-path off-axis configuration to capture multiplexed off-axis interferograms generated by orthogonally polarized object beams and a reference beam on a monochrome CCD camera. The modulation of the fringe direction is achieved by two homemade retro-reflector mirrors, allowing for the retrieval of the Jones matrix distribution of transparent specimens through a matrix-division algorithm.

In aircraft engines, thermoacoustic oscillations in the combustion chamber contribute significantly to noise emissions, which, like all other emissions, must be drastically reduced. Thermoacoustic oscillations are not only a concern, they can also be beneficial in hydrogen combustion. This work demonstrates that thermoacoustic density oscillations with amplitudes at least an order of magnitude smaller than those resulting from density gradients in a turbulent flame can be detected using laser interferometric vibrometry.

Lab-on-a-Chip microfluidic devices present an innovative and cost-effective platform in the current trend of miniaturization and simplification of imaging flow cytometry; they are excellent candidates for high-throughput single-cell analysis. In such microfluidic platforms, cell tracking becomes a fundamental tool for investigating biophysical processes, from intracellular dynamics to the characterization of cell motility and migration. However, high-throughput and long-term cell tracking puts a high demand on the consumption of computing resources.

The polarization state of light waves significantly affects the quality of holographic recordings. This paper quantitatively analyzes the impact of different polarization states of signal and reference beams on the quality of holographic recordings in PQ/PMMA photopolymer systems during the holography process. By deriving the light field distribution of the interference between two light waves of different polarization states and introducing the interference fringe contrast and the modulation of the refractive index of the photopolymer, we established the relationship between the diffraction efficiency of PQ/PMMA photopolymer holographic gratings and the angle between polarization directions.
