In linac-driven free-electron lasers, colliders, and energy recovery linacs, a common way to compress the electron bunch to kiloampere level is based upon the implementation of a magnetic dispersive element that converts particle energy deviation into a path-length difference. Nonlinearities of such a process are usually compensated by enabling a high harmonic rf structure properly tuned in amplitude and phase. This approach is however not straightforward, e.g., in C-band and X-band linacs. In this Letter we demonstrate that the longitudinal self-induced field excited by the electron beam itself is able to linearize the compression process without any use of high harmonic rf structure. The method is implemented at the FERMI linac, with the resulting high quality beam used to drive the seeded free-electron laser during user experiments.

Towed streamer positioning is a vital and essential stage in marine seismic exploration, and accurate hydrophone coordinates exert a direct and significant influence on the quality and reliability of seismic imaging. Current methods predominantly rely on analytical polynomial models for towed streamer positioning; however, these models often produce significant errors when fitting to streamers with high curvature, particularly during turning scenarios. To address this limitation, this study introduces a novel multi-streamer analytical positioning method that uses a hybrid harmonic function to model the three-dimensional coordinates of streamers.

The molecular characteristics and rheological properties of three UHMWPE samples were investigated. The high-temperature GPC method was used for characterizing UHMWPE samples used. The interpretation of the measurement results was based on calibration using the PS standard and the approximation of the PS data by linear and cubic polynomials, as well as on the data for linear PE.

A MEMS gyroscope is a critical sensor in attitude control platforms and inertial navigation systems, which has the advantages of small size, light weight, low energy consumption, high reliability and strong anti-interference capability. This paper presents the design, simulation and fabrication of a Y-axis gyroscope with out-of-plane detection developed using CMOS-MEMS technology. The structural dimensions of the gyroscope were optimized through a multi-objective genetic algorithm, and modal, harmonic response and range simulation analyses were carried out to verify the reasonableness of the design.

High-performance acoustic resonators based on single-crystalline piezoelectric thin films have great potential in wireless communication applications. This paper presents the modeling, fabrication, and characterization of laterally excited bulk resonators (XBARs) utilizing the suspended ultra-thin (~420 nm) LiTaO (LT, with 42° YX-cut) film. The finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to model the LT-based XBARs precisely and to gain further insight into the physical behaviors of the acoustic waves and the loss mechanisms.

Room reverberation can affect oral/aural communication and is especially critical in computer analysis of voice. High levels of reverberation can distort voice recordings, impacting the accuracy of quantifying voice production quality and vocal health evaluations. This study quantifies the impact of additive simulated reverberation on otherwise clean voice recordings as reflected in voice metrics commonly used for voice quality evaluation.
