A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped, aerobic bacterium, designated 15J9-8, was isolated from soil on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. The isolate was able to grow between 10 and 30°C, pH 6.5-8.5, and in presence of 0-1% (w/v) NaCl. The results of comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain 15J9-8 represented a member of the family Cytophagaceae, phylum Bacteroidetes, and was most closely related to Spirosoma aerophilum 5516J-17 (96.1% similarity), Spirosoma pulveris JSH5-14 (95.6%), and Spirosoma linguale DSM 74 (95.2%). The G + C content of the genomic DNA of the isolate was 47.0 mol%. Strain 15J9-8 contained summed feature 3 (C ω7c/C ω6c), C ω5c, and iso-C as the major fatty acids, phosphatidylethanolamine and an unidentified aminophospholipid as the main polar lipids, and menaquinone MK-7 as the predominant respiratory quinone. On the basis of its phenotypic and genotypic properties, and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain 15J9-8 should be classified as a representative of a novel species of the genus Spirosoma, for which the name Spirosoma migulaei sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 15J9-8 (=KCTC 52028 =JCM 31996).

Background: Synthesis of organic@inorganic hNFs is achieved by the coordination of organic compounds containing amine, amide, and diol groups with bivalent metals. The use of bio-extracts containing these functional groups instead of expensive organic inputs such as DNA, enzymes, and protein creates advantages in terms of cost and applicability. In this study, the application potentials (antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, guaiacol, anionic, and cationic dye degradation) of hybrid (organic@inorganic) nanoflowers (hNFs) synthesized with Cu and snakeskin (SSS) were proposed.

Yeast sex-hormone whole-cell biosensors are analytical tools characterized by long-time storage and low production cost. We engineered compact β-estradiol biosensors in S. cerevisiae cells by leveraging short (20-nt long) operators bound by the fusion protein LexA-ER-VP64-where ER is the human estrogen receptor and VP64 a strong viral activation domain.

Ecology and evolution are considered distinct processes that interact on contemporary time scales in microbiomes. Here, to observe these processes in a natural system, we collected a two-decade, 471-metagenome time series from Lake Mendota (Wisconsin, USA). We assembled 2,855 species-representative genomes and found that genomic change was common and frequent.

Nanomedical applications have increased significantly. This work aimed to fabricate and characterize cobalt oxide nanoparticles (CoOnps) synthesized biologically via aqueous Alhagi maurorum extract and evaluate their cytotoxic and antimicrobial impacts. Green-synthesized CoOnps were prepared and analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer UV-vis, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy TEM, Energy dispersive X-ray analysis EDAX, Fourier transform infrared, FTIR, and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Human cancer cell lines are the mainstay of cancer research. Recent reports showed that highly mutated adult carcinoma cell lines (mainly HeLa and MCF-7) present striking diversity across laboratories and that long-term continuous culturing results in genomic/transcriptomic heterogeneity with strong phenotypical implications. Here, we hypothesize that oligomutated pediatric sarcoma cell lines mainly driven by a fusion transcription factor, such as Ewing sarcoma (EwS), are genetically and phenotypically more stable than the previously investigated adult carcinoma cell lines.
