Monte Carlo molecular simulations of curve-shaped rods show the propensity of such shapes to polymorphism revealing both smectic and polar nematic phases. The nematic exhibits a nanoscale modulated local structure characterized by a unique, polar, -symmetry axis that tightly spirals generating a mirror-symmetry-breaking organization of the achiral rods-form chirality. A comprehensive characterization of the polarity and its symmetries in the nematic phase confirms that the nanoscale modulation is distinct from the elastic deformations of a uniaxial nematic director in the twist-bend nematic phase.

The placenta is a vital organ that supports fetal development by mediating nutrient and gas exchange, regulating immune tolerance, and maintaining hormonal balance. Its formation and function are tightly linked to the processes of embryo implantation and the establishment of a robust placental-uterine interface. Recent advances in molecular biology and histopathology have shed light on the key regulatory factors governing these processes, including trophoblast invasion, spiral artery remodeling, and the development of chorionic villi.

Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a complex early pregnancy complication affecting 1-2% of couples and is often linked to immune dysfunction. Aberrations in T and B cell subpopulations, as well as natural killer (NK) cell activity, are particularly influential, with studies showing that abnormal NK cell activation and imbalances in T and B cell subtypes contribute to immune-mediated miscarriage risk. Successful pregnancy requires a tightly regulated balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory immune responses.

A microscopic insight into hybrid CH physisorption-hydrate formation in halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) is vital for understanding the solidification storage of natural gas in the HNTs and developing energy storage technology. Herein, large-scale microsecond classical molecular dynamics simulations are conducted to investigate CH storage in the HNTs via the adsorption-hydration hybrid (AHH) method to reveal the effect of gas-water ratio. The simulation results indicate that the HNTs are excellent nanomaterials for CH storage via the adsorption-hydration hybrid method.

AAA+ proteolytic machines unfold proteins before degrading them. Here, we present cryoEM structures of ClpXP-substrate complexes that reveal a postulated but heretofore unseen intermediate in substrate unfolding/degradation. A ClpX hexamer draws natively folded substrates tightly against its axial channel via interactions with a fused C-terminal degron tail and ClpX-RKH loops that flexibly conform to the globular substrate.
