Navigation-assisted endoscopic U-flap technique and steroid-eluting stent for choanal atresia repair.

Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol

January 2025

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. Electronic address:

Objectives: Surgery is the only treatment for congenital choanal atresia (CCA). It is crucial to avoid postoperative restenosis or re-occlusion of the neo-choana. This study investigated the efficacy of a navigation-assisted endoscopic endonasal U-flap technique and a bioabsorbable steroid-eluting stent for CCA repair.

Periodontal disease is one of the main affections of the oral cavity of dogs. Its main complication is the formation of periapical abscess, which, when affecting the maxillary canine teeth, can lead to the formation of oronasal fistulae. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of self-curing glass ionomer cement, covered by photopolymerizable adhesive, as a protective element for mucoperiosteal or gingival flap sutures in oral surgery of dogs.

Universidade de Pernambuco, School of Dentistry, Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, R. Arnóbio Marquês, 310 - Santo Amaro, Recife Pernambuco - Zip Code: 50100-130, Brazil

Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate postoperative effects of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in wound and bone healing, pain, swelling and periodontal complications outcomes after impacted third molars extraction.

Material And Methods: A prospective, randomized, split-mouth, double-blind clinical trial was conducted. PRF was placed within sockets following tooth removal and before suturing mucoperiosteal flap while no treatment was performed on control group's sockets.

Background And Aim: Dental implant patients are frequently required to undergo a second-stage/uncovery procedure to expose the implant fixture. The aim of the present prospective study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of the vestibular split rolling flap (VSRF) versus the double door mucoperiosteal flap (DDMF) techniques at adjacent posterior implant sites during the second-stage procedure.

Materials And Methods: A total of 44 uncovered posterior dental implants in 10 healthy patients were treated at the second stage.

Biomechanical evaluation of cyanoacrylate-based tissue adhesive for intraoral wound closure.

Clin Oral Investig

June 2022

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Federal Armed Forces Hospital, Rübenacherstr. 170, 56072, Koblenz, Germany.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the biomechanical characteristics of a novel cyanoacrylate-based tissue adhesive (CTA) for soft-tissue closure of the (non-) tooth-bearing alveolar process and around dental implants.

Materials And Methods: Halves of porcine mandibles (n = 21) were randomly divided into three experimental intraoral wound closure groups (A-C) with three different mucoperiosteal flap types (F1-3, n = 7 each): F1, crestal incision between the last incisor and the canine with a mesial and distal vestibular relief; F2, crestal double-T-shaped incision and dental implant placement between the canine and the first premolar; and F3, trapezoidal incision on the second premolar. F1-3 were respectively closed using (A) monofil non-resorbable sutures, (B) CTA, and (C) a combination of both.
