Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the fourth most important crop worldwide. Potato virus A (PVA) is one of the most harmful viruses infecting potatoes. However, the molecular mechanisms governing the responses to PVA infection in potato at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels are not well understood. In this study, we performed both mRNA and small RNA sequencing in potato leaves to identify the genes and miRNAs involved in the response to PVA infection. A total of 2,062 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 201 miRNAs (DEMs) were identified, respectively. Gene ontology (GO) and KEGG analysis revealed that these DEGs were involved in the transduction of pathogen signals, transcriptional reprogramming, induction of hormone signaling, activation of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes, and changes in secondary metabolism. Small RNA sequencing revealed 58 miRNA-mRNA interactions related to PVA infection. Some of the miRNAs (stu-miR482d-3p, stu-miR397-5p, etc) which target PR genes showed negative correlations between the DEMs and DEGs. Eight of the DEGs and three DEMs with their target genes were further validated by quantitative real time-PCR (qRT-PCR). Overall, this study provides a transcriptome-wide insight into the molecular basis of resistance to PVA infection in potato leaves and potenital candidate genes for improving resistance cultivars.

The antibacterial nanofibrous mat is crucial in biomedicine as it enhances infection control, expedites wound healing, and mitigates health hazards by decreasing antibiotic usage. A novel synergistic antibacterial and hydrophilic nanofibrous mat successfully fabricated by solution electrospinning from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) incorporated Croton bonplandianum Baill (CBB) leaves extract. Antioxidant-enriched leaf extract of the CBB plant was integrated with PVA in varying proportions of 30% (CBB-30), 40% (CBB-40), and 50% (CBB-50) to manufacture antibacterial nanofibrous mat.

The effective prevention and treatment of anastomotic leakage after intestinal anastomosis for colorectal diseases is still a major clinical challenge. In order to assist intestinal anastomosis healing and avoid anastomotic leakage caused by high tension, low blood supply or infection, we designed a double-layer nanofiber intestinal anastomosis scaffold, which was composed of electrospun PTMC/PHA nanofibers as the main layer, and electrospun PVA/OHA-Gs nanofibers with antibacterial properties as the antibacterial surface layer. This double-layer scaffold has good toughness, its maximum tensile force value could reach 8 N, elongation could reach 400 %, and it has hydrophilic properties, and its contact angle was about 60°.

Compounds containing the piperidine group are highly attractive as building blocks for designing new drugs. Functionalized piperidines are of significant interest due to their prevalence in the pharmaceutical field. Herein, 3-oxo-3-(piperidin-1-yl) propanenitrile has been synthesized, and piperidine-based sodium alginate/poly(vinyl alcohol) films have been prepared.

: We developed delafloxacin (Dela)-loaded PLGA nanoparticles (PNPs) for potential ocular application a topical route to treat eye infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. : Dela-PNPs were formulated using the emulsification-solvent evaporation method and stabilized using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Size and morphology were characterized by using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

To address the issues of infectious virus, bacterial secondary infections, skin pigmentation, and scarring caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV), a sprayable hydrogel with versatile functions was developed with comprehensive properties. Based on current research, the bioactive deep eutectic solvent (DES) of rosmarinic acid-proanthocyanidin-glycol (RPG) was designed and synthesized as active agent, and molecular docking was applied to discover its binding to MPXV proteins through H-bonds and van der Waals interactions, and the docking results show the binding energies between RA, PC, Gly and MPXV proteins are -58.7188, -50.
