Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is a wide spread bone matrix protein that affect the function, formation and cell-cell interactions of osteoclasts and osteoblasts to regulate bone remodeling and sustain adequate bone mass. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of the two polymorphism of transforming growth factor-β1 T869C and C-509T in developing osteoporosis in postmenopausal Egyptian women. This study was performed on 138 postmenopausal osteoporosis/osteopenic women and 128 postmenopausal female control group. There was a significant statistical difference in the CC, CT and TT (T869C) genotype frequencies between the osteopenia/osteoporosis and control subjects (p value <0.001). There was a non-significant statistical difference in the CC, CT and TT (T-509C) genotype frequencies between the osteopenia/osteoporosis and control subjects (p value <0.082). There was a significant statistical difference between TT,CT and CC of (T869C) and T score, Z score and calcium of osteopenia/osteoporosis group (p value <0.001). There was a non-significant statistical difference between TT, CT and CC of (T-509C) and T score, Z score of osteopenia/osteoporosis group (p value 0.32,0.31),but there was a statistically significant difference between the three genotyping and serum calcium and creatinine (p value 0.04). Multivariate regression analysis showed that T869C polymorphism is a significant risk factor for osteopenia/ osteoporosis (OR 3.57, 95% CI= 1.56-5.67). We concluded that T869C polymorphism of the TGF-β1 gene has an impact on bone mineral density and enhancement of the susceptibility to osteopenia/osteoporosis in Egyptian women.

Aim: We applied the Institute of Medicine (IOM) definition of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare to estimate disparities in alcohol-related problems. This estimation involved adjusting for drinking patterns, gender and age, with observed disparities further explained by socioeconomic status (SES). We compared results of five statistical approaches which use different methods for adjusting covariates.

Purpose: The etiology of early-onset scoliosis (EOS) has been shown to significantly influence baseline parent-reported health-related quality of life (HrQOL). In combining these etiology groups, we obligatorily lump together many disparate diagnoses, particularly true in the neuromuscular (NM) cohort. We sought to evaluate the influence of underlying neuromuscular diagnosis on the HrQOL at 5 years following surgery for EOS.

Citizen science has been increasingly utilized for monitoring resource conditions and visitor use in protected areas. However, the quality of data provided by citizen scientists remains a major concern that hinders wider applications in protected area management. We evaluated a prototype, citizen science-based trail assessment and monitoring program in Hong Kong using an integrated evaluative approach with a specific focus on the congruence of data collected by trained volunteers and managers.

In this paper, explore the effectiveness of a new Wide Area Fuzzy Power System Stabilizer (WAFPSS), optimized using the Exponential Distribution Optimization (EDO) algorithm, and applied to an IEEE three-area, six-machine power system model. This research primarily focuses on assessing the stabilizer's capability to dampen inter-area oscillations, a critical challenge in power grid operations. Through extensive simulations, the study demonstrates how the WAFPSS enhances stability and reliability under a variety of operational conditions characterized by different communication delay patterns.

Objective: This study presents a novel odontoid parameter, the odontoid incidence (OI), to examine the correlation between OI on preoperative cervical sagittal radiographs and 2-year clinical outcomes following short-segment anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 87 patients with CSM who underwent ACDF surgery from January 2018 to December 2023 was conducted. The patients were categorized into a larger OI group (44 patients, OI > 12.
