What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) low-level viremia (LLV) during antiretroviral therapy (ART) occurs frequently in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

What Is Added By This Report?: Among people living with HIV who achieved virological success [viral load (VL) <1,000 copies/mL] after initiating ART in Dehong Prefecture, Southwest China, 17.6% experienced first-year LLV of 50-999 copies/mL First-year LLV emerged as an independent risk factor for subsequent viral non-suppression compared with participants maintaining first-year VL <50 copies/mL.

Background/objectives: Cocaine use disorder is an intersecting issue in populations with HIV-1, further exacerbating the clinical course of the disease and contributing to neurotoxicity and neuroinflammation. Cocaine and HIV neurotoxins play roles in neuronal damage during neuroHIV progression by disrupting glutamate homeostasis in the brain. Even with combined antiretroviral therapy (cART), HIV-1 Nef, an early viral protein expressed in approximately 1% of infected astrocytes, remains a key neurotoxin.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) proviral reservoirs are cells that harbor integrated HIV proviral DNA within their nuclear genomes. These cells form a heterogeneous group, represented by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), tissue-resident lymphoid and monocytic cells, and glial cells of the central nervous system. The importance of studying the properties of proviral reservoirs is connected with the inaccessibility of integrated HIV proviral DNA for modern anti-retroviral therapies (ARTs) that block virus reproduction.

Introduction: The mortality rate among Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) who have started antiretroviral therapy (ART) continues to be increased in resource-limited countries, despite a decline in developed nations. Furthermore, research within this age group is limited and has not previously been conducted in the study area. Consequently, this study aimed to determine the incidence of mortality and its predictors among HIV-positive children who have been receiving ART at public health facilities in West Wollega.
