Two new species of Michaelsen, 1900, namely Narayanan & Julka, and Narayanan & Julka, , are described from material collected from the Indian state of Kerala, which lies in the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot. Rao, 1921, Stephenson, 1917, Rao, 1921, Rao, 1921, and Gates, 1945 are recorded for the first time from the state.

More than three billion years of evolution have produced an image of biology encoded into the space of natural proteins. Here we show that language models trained at scale on evolutionary data can generate functional proteins that are far away from known proteins. We present ESM3, a frontier multimodal generative language model that reasons over the sequence, structure, and function of proteins.

Although both short and long sleep duration are associated with elevated hypertension risk, our understanding of their interplay with biological pathways governing blood pressure remains limited. To address this, we carried out genome-wide cross-population gene-by-short-sleep and long-sleep duration interaction analyses for three blood pressure traits (systolic, diastolic, and pulse pressure) in 811,405 individuals from diverse population groups. We discover 22 novel gene-sleep duration interaction loci for blood pressure, mapped to 23 genes.

In ischemic stroke, selectively cooling the ischemic penumbra might lead to neuroprotection while avoiding systemic complications. Because penumbral tissue has reduced cerebral blood flow and brain temperature measurement remains challenging, the effect of different methods of therapeutic hypothermia on penumbral temperature are unknown. We used the COMSOL Multiphysics® software to model a range of cases of therapeutic hypothermia in ischemic stroke.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been an historic challenge to public health, and to behavior change programs. There have been challenges in promoting vaccination in LMICs, including Nigeria. One important hypothesis deserving consideration is the ability to obtain vaccination as a potential barrier to vaccination uptake.
