is described from high altitude shallow water lakes in southern Ecuador. This is the second representative of the genus recorded in the country after . The new species shares with nine South American species of the genus the display of a smooth, non-processiferous body, a male first uropod with a modified curved robust seta on the endopod, and six pairs of sternal gills. The new taxon can be distinguished from these species based on the presence/absence of eyes; relative length of antenna 1 with respect to antenna 2; presence/absence of short pointed robust seta distally on palp of maxilla 1; number of pappose setae proximally on medial margin of inner lobe of maxilla 2; elongation and curvature of the modified robust seta of endopod of male uropod 1; relative length of ramus of uropod 3 with respect to protopod; and armature and outline of telson, among other features. It seems to be a high-altitude endemic to the Cajas Massif in Azuay Province, being replaced in the same area at lower altitudes by .

Domain generalization (DG) aims to enhance the model robustness against domain shifts without accessing target domains. A prevalent category of methods for DG is data augmentation, which focuses on generating virtual samples to simulate domain shifts. However, existing augmentation techniques in DG are mainly tailored for convolutional neural networks (CNNs), with limited exploration in token-based architectures, i.

Amphipods in the parvorder Hadziidira are typically associated with algae, sponges, or coral rubble. Members of the parvorder have a gnathopod 2 that is stouter than gnathopod 1, a pair of dorsal robust setae on urosomite 2, and a basofacial robust seta on the uropod 1 peduncle. Within the parvorder, six families are documented from Bocas del Toro, Panama, represented by 26 species.

Multilevel Micronanoscale Texture Effects on Fly Wing Membrane-Water Droplet Interaction.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

April 2024

Department of Inorganic Materials, School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China.

The wettable surface or nonwettable surface that is derived from a multilevel micronanoscale structure is abundant in nature and biomimetic commodities. Those hoverflies with the seta-coated wing membrane detached from impacting free-falling raindrops were observed in static states. A hoverfly wing membrane with well-ordered setae was identified as a robust nonwettable surface, and the static water contact angle θ on the wing membrane at the microscopic scale is 136.
