Introduction: Jaccoud arthropathy (JA) is a deforming nonerosive arthropathy, characterized by the presence of "reversible" joint deformity. The study aims at describing the main musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) findings of a series of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with JA.
Methods: Consecutive patients diagnosed as having JA and SLE were included in the study. All patients underwent a whole clinical evaluation and US of the hands and wrists. The US scan evaluated the presence of synovial hypertrophy, tenosynovitis, and bone erosions.
Results: Thirty-nine of 40 patients were female. The US examination was performed on 560 joints of the hands and wrists. At least 1 change was observed in the US examination of 20 patients (50.0%), but there was not a statistically significant association with disease activity (P = 0.33). Nineteen patients (47.5%) had synovial hypertrophy, 9 (22.5%) had tenosynovitis, and 7 (17.5%) had both. Isolated small bone erosions were identified in 2 patients (5.0%).
Conclusions: Ultrasound examination is a reliable and noninvasive imaging method for the evaluation of joint involvement in SLE. Half of the patients with JA have ultrasonographic signs of joint inflammation, and these abnormalities may be found even in the absence of disease activity.

Objective: Targeted transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (tTENS) is a non-invasive neural stimulation technique that involves activating sensory nerve fibers to elicit tactile sensations in a distal, or referred, location. Though tTENS is a promising approach for delivering haptic feedback in virtual reality or for use by those with somatosensory deficits, it was not known how the perception of tTENS might be influenced by changing wrist position during sensorimotor tasks.
Approach: We worked with 12 able-bodied individuals and delivered tTENS by placing electrodes on the wrist, thus targeting the ulnar, median, and radial nerves, and eliciting tactile sensations in the hand.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if there were differences in the tendon forces needed to cause wrist motion and in the passive range of wrist motion following total wrist replacement (TWR) using a contemporary arthroplasty design.
Methods: Eight fresh frozen cadaver arms were moved through five different wrist motions using a wrist joint simulator before and after the insertion of a TWR. Changes in the peak tendon forces and wrist range of motion were compared.

Background Pronator quadratus (PQ) acts as the pronator of the wrist and stabiliser of the distal radioulnar joint; it also provides a protective cover over the edge of the plate, preventing friction and subsequent rupture of flexor tendons. The repair of PQ is often difficult, and its durability is questionable; hence, preserving the PQ while volar plating distal radius fractures is advocated. Methods In this prospective randomised trial, 60 patients with a fracture of the distal end of the radius of AO-type (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen) 23 A2, A3, B1, B3, C1, and C2 were treated with volar plate fixation using either the PQ-releasing and repair approach (Group A, n = 30) or the PQ-sparing approach (Group B, n = 30), allowed by simple randomisation.

Background: Methods for age estimation in children involve measurements of: (1) the projections of open apices and tooth heights (T), (2) the total area of the carpal bones and the epiphyses of the ulna and radius (HW), and (3) a combination of these parameters (THW). This study aimed to compare the accuracy of the original formulae for T, HW, and THW in Black South African (BSA) and White South African (WSA) samples of children and adolescents.
Materials And Methods: The sample comprised 556 subjects, 164 BSA (71 males and 93 females) and 392 WSA (171 males and 221 females) aged 6 to 16 years.

Purpose: The C4 dermatome anesthesia holds significance for arthroscopic shoulder surgery. However, the reliability of achieving C4 dermatome anesthesia with the current low-dose ultrasound-guided interscalene block (ISB) and supraclavicular block (SCB) remains uncertain. This prospective, single-center study examined the effects of ultrasound-guided interscalene block (ISB) and supraclavicular block (SCB) on the C4 sensory dermatome in patients undergoing shoulder, hand, or wrist surgery.
