Aim: To assess the utility of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in predicting troponin elevation in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Patients: The total of 119 patients were divided into troponin-positive (n = 61) and troponin-negative (n = 58) patients.
Results: CRP cut-off value ≥13.4 mg/l had the sensitivity of 68.1% and specificity of 62.5%, while the GGT cut-off value ≥61.5 IU/l had the sensitivity of 66.0% and specificity of 62.0% and combined use of both CRP and GGT had 71.4% sensitivity and 69.6% specificity in predicting troponin increase in acute coronary syndrome patients.
Conclusion: GGT might be used as an adjuvant marker for risk assessment patients who present with chest pain and are suspected to have acute coronary syndrome.

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a lipoprotein with potent atherogenic and thrombogenic potential. Its role in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) combined with three-vessel disease (TVD) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between Lp(a) levels and the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with ACS combined with TVD.

Objectives: To investigate through a meta-analysis of comparative studies the impact of donor type (brain death DBD vs circulatory death DCD) on the short- and long-term outcomes of lung transplantation(LTx).
Methods: Literature search (terms "lung transplantation" AND "donation after circulatory death") was performed up to July 2022 and studies comparing outcomes of LTx from DCD versus DBD were selected. Primary endpoints were early and long-term mortality.

Patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) present with critical hemodynamic compromise with low cardiac output (CO) resulting in end-organ dysfunction. Prognosis is closely related to the severity of shock and treatment of patients with CS is resource intensive. In this review, we consider the current treatment paradigms alongside the evidence that underpins them.

Background: While clinical indicators for synchronized cardioversion in regular supraventricular tachycardias are well-established, their application by prehospital emergency medical services (EMS) still needs to be explored.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors influencing the decision-making process of prehospital EMS personnel to perform synchronized cardioversion in adults with narrow QRS regular tachyarrhythmias.
Methods: This descriptive study included 598 paramedics actively engaged in prehospital EMS.

Purpose Of Review: To outline the latest discoveries regarding the utility and reliability of serum biomarkers in idiopathic recurrent acute pericarditis (IRAP), considering recent findings on its pathogenesis. The study highlights the predictive role of these biomarkers in potential short- (cardiac tamponade, recurrences) and long-term complications (constrictive pericarditis, death).
Recent Findings: The pathogenesis of pericarditis has been better defined in recent years, focusing on the autoinflammatory pathway.
