Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate the effects of 1 year of medical treatment on myocardial function in active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Materials And Methods: Thirty-nine female patients with RA without any known cardiovascular disease underwent a cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) examination before and after 1 year of antirheumatic treatment. The population comprised untreated active early RA (ERA) and chronic RA patients, who were grouped accordingly. The CMR protocol included volumetric determinations, late gadolinium enhancement imaging, myocardial tagging, and native T1 mapping. DAS28-CRP disease activity scores were calculated before and after the treatment.
Results: Results are reported as median (quartile 1-quartile 3). Time to peak diastolic filling rate improved in ERA (495 [443-561] ms vs 441 [340-518] ms, P = .018). Peak diastolic mean mid short-axis circumferential strain rate of all six segments was improved (82 [74-91] %/s vs 91 [77-100] %/s, P = .05), particularly in the anterior segment (82 [63-98] %/s vs 86 [77-109] %/s, P = .013). DAS28-CRP decreased in ERA (3.8 [3.2-4.1] vs 1.6 [1.4-2.2], P < .001). In chronic RA, no statistically significant improvement was detected.
Conclusions: Early treatment of active RA is important, as myocardial function detected with CMR tagging improved in ERA in parallel with decreasing inflammatory activity.

Large-scale gene-environment interaction (GxE) discovery efforts often involve analytical compromises for the sake of data harmonization and statistical power. Refinement of exposures, covariates, outcomes, and population subsets may be helpful to establish often-elusive replication and evaluate potential clinical utility. Here, we used additional datasets, an expanded set of statistical models, and interrogation of lipoprotein metabolism via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based lipoprotein subfractions to refine a previously discovered GxE modifying the relationship between physical activity (PA) and HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C).

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DMCM), defined as left ventricular dysfunction in the setting of diabetes mellitus without hypertension, coronary artery disease or valvular heart disease, is a well-recognized entity whose prevalence is certainly predicted to increase alongside the rising incidence and prevalence of diabetes mellitus. The pathophysiology of DMCM stems from hyperglycemia and insulin resistance, resulting in oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiomyocyte death, and fibrosis. These perturbations lead to left ventricular hypertrophy with associated impaired relaxation early in the course of the disease, and eventually culminating in combined systolic and diastolic heart failure.

Objectives: To evaluate the function of kidneys with renal artery stenosis using multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, assess the diagnostic efficacy of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging for single kidney dysfunction.
Materials And Methods: Renal multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging was performed on 62 patients with RAS using the Philips Ingenia CX 3.0 T MRI machine.

Aims: Atrial septal defect (ASD) and partial abnormal pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) are noncyanotic congenital heart defects (CHD) that produce a left-to-right shunt. This single-center retrospective study aimed to assess the hemodynamic impact of isolated ASD, isolated PAPVC, and ASD-associated PAPVC using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
Methods And Results: From our CMR registry (2002-2024), 110 patients were included: isolated ASD (n=64), isolated PAPVC (n=18), ASD-associated PAPVC (n=28, mostly sinus venosus septal defects).
The left ventricular trabecular fractal dimension (LVTFD) derived from cardiac magnetic resonance reflects myocardial trabecular complexity, which is associated with cardiovascular disease risk. Baseline risk stratification of cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD) in patients with breast cancer who received anthracycline is a very important clinical issue. In this study, we used the Cox model to derive and validate a new score system based on LVTFD for baseline risk stratification of CTRCD in breast cancer patients receiving anthracycline.
