The basis of craniofacial tumor surgery is complete surgical extirpation, preferably en bloc or with free borders. Craniofacial techniques are the gold standard and primary strategies in the treatment of anterior skull base tumors. In the last decade, the reports favoring results of endoscopic techniques have increased. One could conclude that the classical transfacial approaches might become useless, but, in fact, there is little research comparing these techniques. In this article, the authors present their experience with combined craniofacial resection of anterior craniofacial skull base tumors in 9 consecutive patients between January 2013 and July 2015. This article aims to review some of the traditional transfacial approaches, illustrating them with this series of surgical patients. Benefits and drawbacks of these approaches are discussed.

This study aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) algorithm that can predict unplanned reoperations and surgical/medical complications after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery. All pre- and peri-operative variables available in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database (n = 110), except those directly related to our outcome variables, were used as input variables. A deep neural network model consisting of seven layers was developed using the Keras open-source library, with a 70:30 breakdown for training and testing.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) management guidelines vary across regions and there is limited research on real-world adherence to these guidelines. We conducted a global survey to assess the adherence of neurosurgeons to TBI guidelines and evidence-based medicine (EBM).
Method: A 24-item survey was created using Google Forms, covering demographic information, neurotrauma training, basic knowledge of EBM, surgical and in-hospital management.
