Wheat (Triticum aestivum) has low nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). The genetic mechanisms controlling NUE are unknown. Positional cloning of a major quantitative trait locus for N-related agronomic traits showed that the vernalization gene TaVRN-A1 was tightly linked with TaNUE1, the gene shown to influence NUE in wheat. Because of an Ala /Val substitution, TaVRN-A1a and TaVRN-A1b proteins interact differentially with TaANR1, a protein encoded by a wheat orthologue of Arabidopsis nitrate regulated 1 (ANR1). The transcripts of both TaVRN-A1 and TaANR1 were down-regulated by nitrogen. TaANR1 was functionally characterized in TaANR1::RNAi transgenic wheat, and in a natural mutant with a 23-bp deletion including 10-bp at the 5' end of intron 5 and 13-bp of exon 6 in gDNA sequence in its gDNA sequence, which produced transcript that lacked the full 84-bp exon 6. Both TaANR1 and TaHOX1 bound to the Ala /Val position of TaVRN-A1. Genetically incorporating favourable alleles from TaVRN-A1, TaANR1 and TaHOX1 increased grain yield from 9.84% to 11.58% in the field. Molecular markers for allelic variation of the genes that regulate nitrogen can be used in breeding programmes aimed at improving NUE and yield in novel wheat cultivars.

Photocatalytic reduction of nitrate to N holds great significance for environmental governance. However, the selectivity of nitrate reduction to N is influenced by sacrificial agents and the kinds of cocatalysts (such as Pt and Ag). The presence of unconsumed sacrificial agents can aggravate environmental pollution, while noble metal-based cocatalysts increase application costs.

The response of oilseed rape to sulfur (S) restriction usually consists of increasing the components of S utilization efficiency (absorption, assimilation and remobilization) to provide S to seeds. However, source-sink relationships and S management in developing seeds under sulfate restriction are poorly understood. To address this, impacts of sulfate restrictions applied at "visible bud" or "start of pod filling" stages were studied with two genotypes (Aviso, Capitol) showing similar seed yield but higher seed weight and lower number of seeds per plant for Capitol under non-limited conditions.

Herein, the construction of potential donor-acceptor (D-A) structures was guided using density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. The photocatalytic nitrogen fixation performance of TAPT-CHF was then experimentally determined to be 327.58 μmol g h, which was attributed to its efficient photo-induced charge separation and migration ability.

Neutron-Transformer Reflectometry Advanced Computation Engine (), a neural network model using a transformer architecture, is introduced for neutron reflectometry data analysis. It offers fast, accurate initial parameter estimations and efficient refinements, improving efficiency and precision for real-time data analysis of lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction for electrochemical ammonia synthesis, with relevance to other chemical transformations and batteries. Despite limitations in generalizing across systems, it shows promises for the use of transformers as the basis for models that could accelerate traditional approaches to modeling reflectometry data.

Triazole, a nitrogen-containing five-membered heterocycle with two isomeric forms, 1,2,3-triazole and 1,2,4-triazole, has proven to be a valuable component in the pharmaceutical domain. Owing to its widespread utility in drug development, pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, several synthetic methods have been explored, such as different catalytic systems, solvents, and heating methodologies in recent years. However, some methods were associated with several limitations, such as harsh reaction conditions, high temperatures, low atom economy, and long reaction times.
