Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the axial length/corneal radius of curvature ratio changes after posterior scleral reinforcement (PSR) for pathologic myopia.

Procedures: This study enrolled 32 pathologically myopic eyes treated with PSR and 35 untreated pathologically myopic eyes. Axial length, refractive error, best corrected visual acuity, corneal radius of curvature, and the axial length/corneal radius of curvature ratio were evaluated during the 1-year follow-up.

Results: There were no statistical differences in each parameter between the 2 groups at baseline. Significant differences were found between the 2 groups in both axial elongation and best corrected visual acuity improvement. The average axial length/horizontal corneal radius of curvature ratio significantly decreased in the PSR group.

Conclusion: The PSR surgery can effectively delay the axial elongation in pathological myopia. Axial length/horizontal corneal radius of curvature ratio significantly decreased, which may indicate less myopic progression after surgery.

Study on the mechanism of erosion and wear of elbow pipes by coarse particles in filling slurry.

Coarse particles in filling slurry are the primary factor causing wear in filling elbow pipes, and the wear mechanism of these particles on the pipes is influenced by various factors. To study the erosion and wear mechanism of elbow pipes caused by coarse particles, the motion state of coarse particles under different curvature radii, coarse particle gradations, and pipe diameters was investigated using a simulation method based on the coupling of Fluent and EDEM software, grounded in theories of fluid mechanics, rheology, and solid-liquid two-phase flow. The study explored the impact patterns and locations of wear induced by coarse particles on filling elbow pipes.

Rain erosion induced by raindrops impacting wind turbine blades at high velocity can change the aerodynamic characteristics of the blades and increase maintenance costs. Previous numerical studies on rain erosion have not considered the curvature of the blade leading-edge surfaces and assumed them to be flat surfaces. This study established a fluid-solid coupled numerical model combining the finite element method and smooth particle hydrodynamics.

Objective: To study the morphology of canine and feline femurs and tibias in lateral radiographic projections and assess their compatibility with either a straight or a curved full-length interlocking nail (ILN).

Methods: Lateral projection radiographs of 50 tibias and 50 femurs (10 cats and 40 dogs per bone) were used to measure the minimum and maximum radius of curvature of an ILN compatible with each bone. These radii were defined by cranial and caudal endosteal points at the proximal entry point of the nail, at the isthmus, and at the most distal point of the ILN insertion into the femoral or tibial metaphysis.

Kinematics of abdominal aortic Aneurysms.

Intelligent Systems for Medicine Laboratory, The University of Western Australia, Perth, Western Australia, Australia.

A search in Scopus within "Article title, Abstract, Keywords" unveils 2,444 documents focused on the biomechanics of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), mostly on AAA wall stress. Only 24 documents investigated AAA kinematics, an important topic that could potentially offer significant insights into the biomechanics of AAA. In this paper, we present an image-based approach for patient-specific, in vivo, and non-invasive AAA kinematic analysis using patient's time-resolved 3D computed tomography angiography (4D-CTA) images, with an objective to measure wall displacement and strain during the cardiac cycle.

Purpose: Little is known about the effects of ambient atmospheric pressure (AP) on intraocular pressure (IOP) under ordinary conditions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of AP on Goldmann applanation tonometer-measured IOP (GAT-IOP) in normal eyes under everyday atmospheric conditions adjusting for effects of possible confounding factors including other climatic factors.

Methods: Data obtained from 2,431 normal healthy eyes of 2,431 subjects (mean age: 56.
