Background: Lipid based nanocarriers have gained recently enormous interest for pharmaceutical application. They have the potential to provide controlled drug release and to target the drug to a specific area. In addition, lipid based nanocarriers can improve the bioavailability of drugs suffering from high hepatic first-pass metabolism, by enhancing their transport via the lymphatic system. The main components of lipid based nanocarriers are lipids and surfactants. Both have great influence on the prepared lipid based systems characteristics. The criteria for their selection are much related to physicochemical properties of the drug and the required administration route. This work gives an overview on the effect of both the type and amount of lipids and surfactants used in the manufacture of lipid based nanocarriers on their behavior and characteristics.

Conclusion: Recent studies revealed that the properties of the final product including; particle size, homogeneity, drug loading capacity, zeta potential, drug release profile, stability, permeability, pharmacokinetic properties, crystallinity and cytotoxicity, may be significantly influenced not only by the type but also the amount of the lipids and/or surfactants included in the formulation of the lipid based nanocarriers.

In this study, an integrated approach combining UHPLC-HRMS, H NMR spectroscopy, and sensory analysis unveiled the unique lipid fingerprint of long-ripened Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Coppa Piacentina. Lipidomic profiling revealed significant alterations in lipid classes, including triacylglycerols, sphingolipids, and their oxidation products, which likely contribute to the distinctive flavor, texture, and nutritional properties of this traditional Italian product. UHPLC-HRMS analysis identified various lipid species, highlighting dynamic changes occurring throughout the 240-day ripening process.

Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) atrophy is a significant cause of human blindness worldwide, occurring in polygenic diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and monogenic diseases such as Stargardt diseases (STGD1) and late-onset retinal degeneration (L-ORD). The patient-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived RPE (iRPE) model exhibits many advantages in understanding the cellular basis of pathological mechanisms of RPE atrophy. The iRPE model is based on iPSC-derived functionally mature and polarized RPE cells that reproduce several features of native RPE cells, such as phagocytosis of photoreceptor outer segments (POS) and replenishment of visual pigment.

Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen, Nagyerdei Krt. 98., Debrecen, 4032, Hungary.

The sudden emergence of multidrug- and pan-resistant Candida auris isolates, combined with limited treatment options, poses significant global challenges in healthcare settings. Combination based therapies are promising alternative options to overcome C. auris related infections, where echinocandin and isavuconazole (ISA) combinations may be an interesting and promising approach.

A novel carbon-based light-addressable potentiometric aptasensor (C-LAPS) was constructed for detection low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in serum. Carboxylated TiC MXene @reduced graphene oxide (C-MXene@rGO) was used as interface and o-phenylenediamine functionalized nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (OPD@NGQDs) as the photoelectric conversion element. The photosensitive layers composed of OPD@NGQDs/C-MXene@rGO exhibit superior photoelectric conversion efficiency and excellent biocompatibility, which contribute to an improved response signal.
