Lower back pain is globally the most common problem interfering with functional capacity, and the recognition of causes that are serious and require specific therapy is essential in its diagnosis. Provision of information for a person suffering from lower back pain is essential. In some patients psychosocial factors prolong the back pain and potential incapacity for work. For their evaluation several internationally validated surveys have been developed, which can be used to facilitate the identification of higher-risk patients. By using electronic data, our aim is to develop in Finland the assessment of individual risk of patients with lower back pain and their appropriate treatment.

Most sports and leisure activities involve repetitive movements in the upper limb, which are typically linked to pain and discomfort in the neck and shoulder area. Movement variability is generally expressed by changes in movement parameters from one movement to another and is a time-dependent feature of repetitive activities. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of repeated movement-induced fatigue on biomechanical coordination and variability in athletes with and without chronic shoulder pain (CSP).

Background: Optimised use of kidney function information might improve cardiac risk prediction in noncardiac surgery.
Methods: In 35,815 patients from the VISION cohort study and 9219 patients from the POISE-2 trial who were ≥45 yr old and underwent nonurgent inpatient noncardiac surgery, we examined (by age and sex) the association between continuous nonlinear preoperative estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the composite of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery, nonfatal cardiac arrest, or death owing to a cardiac cause within 30 days after surgery. We estimated contributions of predictive information, C-statistic, and net benefit from eGFR and other common patient and surgical characteristics to large multivariable models.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether IV dexamethasone, within the current multimodal pain management protocol, (1) could maintain postoperative pain at a comparable level without IV PCA, (2) could reduce opioids-related side effects, and (3) whether an additional dose of dexamethasone on POD 2 would offer further pain-relieving effect without increasing the risk of complications. Methods A total of 178 patients (182 knees) who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for osteoarthritis were included in the study. The patients were divided into Dexa 2 & PCA and Dexa 3 & NoPCA group.

Background: Vitamin D is thought to play a role in the development of migraine, but the nature of the relationship is still not fully understood. Although some studies have shown an association between vitamin D deficiency and migraine, other studies have had inconsistent or inconclusive results. Therefore, further research is needed to better understand the relationship between vitamin D and migraine headaches.

Background: The analgesic efficacy of esketamine combined with butorphanol in thoracoscopic surgery remains unclear.
Aim: This study explored the effects of perioperative esketamine combined with butorphanol versus butorphanol alone on acute and chronic postoperative pain in patients who underwent video-assisted lobectomy.
Method: A total of 181 patients were enrolled, with 90 in the esketamine-butorphanol group (Group BK) receiving intraoperative esketamine infusion and postoperative patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) (esketamine 1.
