RhoA and Rac1 as Mechanotransduction Mediators in Colorectal Cancer.

Adv Biol (Weinh)

January 2025

Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre, Nathan Campus, Griffith University, Brisbane, QLD, 4111, Australia.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, creating an urgent need for innovative diagnostic solutions. Mechanobiology, a cutting-edge field that investigates how physical forces influence cell behavior, is now revealing new insights into cancer progression. This research focuses on two crucial players: RhoA and Rac1, small yet powerful proteins that regulate the structure and movement of cancer cells.

Several bacterial pathogens employ haemophores to scavenge haem from host haemoprotein to obtain an iron source. However, no homologues of well-characterized haemophores are found in Riemerella anatipestifer, a bacterium belonging to the order Flavobacteriales that encodes haem uptake systems. Herein, a unique haemophore RhuH is characterized in this bacterium.

Background: Lung cancer (LC) is the top cause of cancer deaths globally, prompting many countries to adopt LC screening programs. While screening typically relies on age and smoking intensity, more efficient risk models exist. We devised a Bayesian network (BN) for LC detection, testing its resilience with varying degrees of missing data and comparing it to a prior machine learning (ML) model.

Molecular diagnosis of infective endocarditis from culture-negative valve samples in a tertiary hospital in Iran.

Microbiol Spectr

January 2025

National Reference Laboratory for Plague, Tularemia and Q fever, Research Centre for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases, Pasteur Institute of Iran, Akanlu, Kabudar Ahang, Hamadan, Iran.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of and in valve samples from endocarditis patients using the real-time PCR method at a major referral heart hospital in Iran. In this study, 146 paraffin-embedded tissue samples from the heart valves of patients with clinical and pathological evidence of infective endocarditis (IE), who underwent heart valve replacement surgery between 2016 and 2020 at Tehran Heart Center were collected. After DNA extraction from paraffin-embedded valve tissue samples, they were surveyed for the presence of and using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR).
