Transparent AgI-CuI heterojunctions with high rectifying diode behavior were prepared via vapor-phase iodization of metal thin films on transparent conducting oxide substrates. At room temperature, Ag and Cu metal thin films were quickly transformed into the transparent and well-crystallized β-phase of AgI and the γ-phase of CuI, respectively. The AgI and CuI films exhibited n-type and p-type semiconductor properties, respectively, with wide band gaps. The heterojunctions were obtained by applying the CuI film to the AgI film in a sequential iodization process. AgI compounds generally have poor air-stability under light, making them suboptimal for use in electronic applications. Here, we used a CuI top layer to inhibit the photodecomposition of the AgI bottom layer, resulting in an air-stable and smooth AgI-CuI film. We also propose a simple patterning method for the AgI-CuI layer using selective decomposition of AgI without the need for lithography equipment or toxic chemicals. Although there is metal ion exchange between the two layers, each layer has a different chemical composition and crystal structure; therefore, the AgI-CuI heterojunction exhibits pn-diode behavior with a rectifying ratio of 9.4 × 10, which is comparable to that of other transparent pn-diodes. These findings open a new path for electronic application of AgI materials.

Local anesthesia is a routine medical procedure for dentists. To achieve the desired anesthetic effect of lidocaine and favorable hemostatic effects by adrenaline, the combination of 2% lidocaine + 1:80,000 adrenaline is commonly used, including in dental patients with underlying diseases for whom adrenaline in local anesthetics is problematic due to its vasoconstrictive effects, as the adrenaline concentration in dental local anesthetic cartridges in Japan is commercially set at 1:80,000. To reduce the effect of adrenaline on the cardiovascular system, adrenaline is sometimes diluted in dental local anesthetic cartridges.

Energy crisis and environmental pollution are two central themes of contemporary research towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Material chemistry is the chief discipline that can resolve glitches in these areas through the appropriate design of chemical compounds with multifunctional properties. In this regard, two stable coordination polymers (CPs) were synthesised in this work using Zn(II) (3d) and Cd(II) (d) metal nodes with 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate () as the bridging ligand and monodentate pyridyl-N coordinated 9-fluoren-2-yl-pyridin-4-ylmethylene-amine (flpy) as the fluorogenic partner.

The g-C3N4/CS biosensor was designed, fabricated, and tested using compounds such as glucose, urine, lactose, and flutamide at a molarity of 10 µM, which could demonstrate a high sensitivity of 200 μm-1 for flutamide. Powerful effective medium theory and FDTD simulation were used to predict the most favorable mode and plasmonic properties of a graphite carbon nitride and chitosan nanocomposite. The research also explores the characteristics of surface plasmon resonance exhibited by the nanocomposite as the chitosan content is adjusted.

In traditional operations of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs), a small thin lithium metal circular disk is employed as a lithium metal anode (LMA). However, ASSLMBs with a circular-disk LMA often fail in <150 cycles with low capacity retention. In this work, we developed a new ring-shaped LMA to improve cyclability.

This study introduces a simple approach to dynamically control multilevel optical ellipticity in ferrimagnetic GdFeCo alloys by switching the spin orientation through Joule heating induced by electrical current, with the assistance of a low magnetic field of 3.5 mT. It is demonstrated that selecting specific compositions of Gd (FeCo) alloys, with magnetic compensation temperatures near or above room temperature, allows for significant manipulation of the circular dichroism (CD) effect.
