AI Article Synopsis

  • The study investigates how nanoparticles of a hexagonal phase form and grow within a body-centered cubic titanium matrix in single crystals of titanium alloys during ageing at temperatures up to 450 °C.
  • Using small-angle x-ray scattering, the researchers collected experimental data and compared it to numerical simulations to understand the self-ordering of nanoparticles and how impurity atoms like Mo, Fe, and Al affect the process.
  • The analysis revealed the average size and distance between nanoparticles, validated the growth law based on the Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner theory, and allowed the assessment of diffusion coefficients and activation energy of the impurity atoms.

Article Abstract

Nucleation and growth kinetics of nanoparticles of hexagonal phase in a body-centered cubic titanium matrix in single crystals of -Ti alloys were investigated by small-angle x-ray scattering measured during ageing at various temperatures up to 450 °C. The experimental data were compared with numerical simulations based on a three-dimensional short-range order model of nanoparticle self-ordering. The x-ray contrast of the particles is caused by an inhomogeneous distribution of impurity atoms (Mo, Fe and Al), whose density profile around growing nanoparticles was simulated by solving the corresponding diffusion equation with moving boundary conditions. From the analysis of the experimental data we determined the mean distance and size of the nanoparticles and confirmed the validity of the ∝ growth law following from the Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner theory. From a detailed comparison of the experimental data with simulations we also assessed the diffusion coefficient of the impurity atoms and its activation energy.

Introduction: Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) trastuzumab-deruxtecan (T-DXd) and sacituzumab-govitecan (SG) provided significant progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) improvements over chemotherapy (CT) in pretreated hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and triple-negative (TN)/HER2-low metastatic breast cancer (MBC). However, no direct comparison between the two exists, nor with the more recent datopotamab-deruxtecan (Dato-DXd).

Methods: We conducted a network meta-analysis (NMA) to compare efficacy and safety of T-DXd and SG in CT-pretreated HR+ and TN/HER2-low MBC and assess their benefit over standard CT, exploring also a comparison with Dato-DXd.

Lung Cancer

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangzhou, China; Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou, China; Department of Medical Oncology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (PLELC) is a rare subtype of non-small-cell lung cancer. This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of perioperative PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in stage II-IIIB PLELC patients.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included stage II-IIIB PLELC patients.

Boldine reduces left ventricle oxidative stress in isoproterenol-induced adrenergic overload experimental model.

Arch Physiol Biochem

December 2024

Laboratory of Cardiovascular Physiology, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brasil.

Sustained adrenergic overload in the heart causes maladaptive cardiac remodelling, which involves oxidative stress. Boldine (BOL) has antioxidant activity and represents a novel therapeutic approach. This study explored the cardioprotective role of BOL in adverse left ventricular remodelling induced by isoproterenol.

Background: Whereas restoration of fecal consistency after treatment with clioquinol for chronic diarrhea and free fecal water syndrome has been attributed to its antiprotozoal properties, actions of clioquinol on the colonic bacterial microbiota have not been investigated.

Objectives: Characterize the dynamics of fecal microbial diversity before, during, and after PO administration of clioquinol to healthy horses.

Study Design: Experimental prospective cohort study using a single horse group.

The Bipolar-Schizophrenia Network for Intermediate Phenotypes (B-SNIP) created psychosis Biotypes based on neurobiological measurements in a multi-ancestry sample. These Biotypes cut across DSM diagnoses of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder with psychosis. Two recently developed post hoc ancestry adjustment methods of Polygenic Risk Scores (PRSs) generate Ancestry-Adjusted PRSs (AAPRSs), which allow for PRS analysis of multi-ancestry samples.
