Broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV-1 have been shown to protect from systemic infection. When employing a novel challenge virus that uses HIV-1 Env for entry into target cells during the first replication cycle, but then switches to SIV Env usage, we demonstrated that bnAbs also prevented mucosal infection of the first cells. However, it remained unclear whether antibody Fc-effector functions contribute to this sterilizing immunity.

Electronic address:

Dipropyl phthalate (DPRP), a plasticizer commonly utilized in the plastics industry, has been identified in food and the environment and has the potential to present a hazard to human health and the environment. In this study, the first comprehensive evaluation of DPRP-induced craniofacial chondrogenic defects was conducted using a zebrafish model. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to 1, 2, and 4 mg/L DPRP from 6 to 96 h post-fertilization.

Active pharmaceutical ingredients, such as levonorgestrel (LNG), continue to increase in aquatic ecosystems and are detected in environmental matrices; however, their ability to bioaccumulate and cause reproductive, developmental, and biochemical defects in benthic organisms, such as Macrocyclops albidus, is unknown. This study investigated the effects of LNG on the oxidative stress response, reproduction, and development of M. albidus.

Epstein-Barr virus lytic replication and cancer.

Curr Opin Virol

December 2024

German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Unit D400, Heidelberg, Germany; Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) mixed Unit, Heidelberg, Germany. Electronic address:

Epidemiological studies have provided strong evidence that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) lytic replication is linked to cancer development. Evidence of abortive lytic replication in some tumors and infections with recombinant viruses incapable of lytic replication in animal models have reinforced this view. Furthermore, multiple lytic proteins have been shown to induce genetic instability, a well-characterized precancerous state.

PTH1R Suppressed Apoptosis of Mesenchymal Progenitors in Mandibular Growth.

Int J Mol Sci

November 2024

Hospital of Stomatology, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510055, China.

Genetic abnormalities of the parathyroid hormone 1 receptor (PTH1R) lead to profound craniomaxillofacial bone and dentition defects on account of inappropriate tissue metabolism and cellular differentiation. The coordinated activity of differentiation and viability in bone cells is indispensable for bone metabolism. Recent research demonstrates mesenchymal progenitors are responsive to PTH1R signaling for osteogenic differentiation, whereas the effect of PTH1R on cellular survival remains incompletely understood.
