Clinical manifestations of ganglioneuroma.

Cancer

Department of Hematology/Oncology, St. Jude Children's Research, Memphis, Tennessee.

Published: March 1989

Ganglioneuroma may occur spontaneously or after therapy for neuroblastoma. This lesion may be metastatic or unresectable in the primary site. The rarity of this situation and lack of understanding of the biology of this benign condition may lead to extensive, potentially life-threatening attempts at surgical resection or the futile use of chemotherapy or radiotherapy to try to cause regression or control growth. The authors present here several cases which demonstrate the multiple presentations of ganglioneuroma and the potential problems which may arise in their management.

Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a prevalent pathogen in pediatric community-acquired pneumonia. Currently, limited literature exists on the clinical utilization of pathogen-targeted sequencing technologies.

Methods: Targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) technology was employed to analyze bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from 1,070 hospitalized pediatric patients with acute lower respiratory tract infections.

Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) is a major serious complication after allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), and often mimics autoimmune diseases. Central nervous system (CNS) symptoms are rare manifestations of cGVHD, and are difficult to diagnose. CNS manifestations of cGVHD were discussed in the 2020 National Institutes of Health cGVHD Consensus Project as one of the "atypical cGVHD manifestations" with involvement of various organ systems other than classical cGVHD organs.

Developmental functional brain network abnormalities in autism spectrum disorder comorbid with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Eur J Pediatr

January 2025

Department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Children's Medical Center, The First Hospital of Jilin University, Jilin University, Changchun, China.

Unlabelled: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often co-occur. Developmental stages significantly influence the variations in brain alterations. However, whether ASD comorbid with ADHD (ASD + ADHD) represents a unique neural characteristic from ASD without comorbid ADHD (ASD-alone), or instead manifests a shared neural correlate associated with ASD across diverse age cohorts remain unclear.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated already existing stressors within health care. In August 2020, a campus-wide COVID-19 well-being survey indicated high levels of burnout, stress, and mental health concerns among certified nurse practitioners (CNPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), and physician assistants (PAs) within our Department of Medicine.

Purpose: In response to this survey, an interdisciplinary task force was formed by CNPs, CNSs, and PAs across departmental specialty divisions to conduct focus groups to gain a deeper understanding of workplace experience both prepandemic and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Patients with post-COVID condition (PCC) and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) experience symptoms potentially associated with small fiber neuropathy (SFN).

Methods: A sample of 90 participants, comprising 30 PCC patients, 30 ME/CFS patients, and 30 healthy controls (HC), matched by sex and age, was assessed. Neuropathic, autonomic, and fatigue symptoms were measured with TaskForce Monitor, the Sudoscan, heat and cold evoked potentials, In Vivo Corneal Confocal Microscopy (IVCCM), and specialized questionaries.
