The selective separation of toxic heavy metals such as uranyl can be accomplished using ligands with stereognostic hydrogen bonding interactions to the uranyl oxo group, as proposed by Raymond and co-workers (T. S. Franczyk, K. R. Czerwinski and K. N. Raymond, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1992, 114, 8138-8146). Recently, several ligands possessing this weak interaction have been proposed involving the hydrogen bonding of NH and OH based moieties with uranyl oxygen. We herein report the structurally and spectroscopically characterized CHO hydrogen bonding using a sterically bulky amide based ligand. In conjunction with experiments, electronic structure calculations are carried out to understand the structure, binding and the strength of the CHO hydrogen bonding interactions. This weak interaction is mainly due to the steric effect caused by a bulky substituent around the donor group which has direct relevance in designing novel ligands in nuclear waste management processes. Although the kinetics are very slow, the ligand is also highly selective to uranyl in the presence of other interfering ions such as lanthanides.

Propyrisulfuron, a novel sulfonylurea herbicide, effectively suppresses intracellular acetolactate synthase activity for weed control, but its adsorption behavior in the soil environment remains unclear. To assess potential agroecosystem risks, the adsorption-desorption behavior and mechanism of propyrisulfuron in six typical agricultural soils of China were investigated using a batch equilibrium method, Density Functional Theory (DFT), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) techniques. It is indicated that the adsorption-desorption of propyrisulfuron in six soils reached equilibrium at 36 hours under the optimum water-to-soil ratio (WSr) of 5:1.

In this study, we innovatively prepared a multifunctional lignin crosslinked polyacrylamide (L-cPAM) hydrogel by a sequential two-step strategy of crosslinking of lignin and crosslinked polyacrylamide (cPAM) followed by the polymerization of cPAM. The hydrogen bonding and crosslinking between the molecular chains of lignin and PAM established a rigid and porous network structure, which provided the L-cPAM hydrogel with excellent mechanical strength, thermal stability, and salinity resistance. A series of lignin dosages (0 to 30 %) were investigated during the crosslinking of lignin and PAM.

The VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads were created by combining VCo-layered double hydroxide (VCo-LDH) and chitosan (CS) using a cross-linking process with epichlorohydrin. These beads were specifically designed to remove tetracycline (TTC). To characterize the VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads, several analytical techniques were used, with PXRD, XPS, FESEM, EDX, and FT-IR.

This study describes the preparation of novel hybrid aerogels derived from gelatin (Gel), incorporating Br-functionalized zirconium-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-Br; MOF) as modifying agent to effectively eliminate phosphate and fluoride ions from aqueous environments. The adsorption performance of MOF decorated Gel (Gel-xMOF) hybrid aerogels was investigated under different conditions, including agitation time, adsorbent dosage, solution pH, initial phosphate and fluoride concentrations, coexisting ions, and temperature. The functional groups of the gelatin network, coupled with UiO-66-Br, enhanced the adsorption performance of phosphate and fluoride ions from aqueous solutions.

Stability of complex biotherapeutics like monoclonal antibodies is paramount for their safe and efficacious use. Excipients are inactive ingredients that are added to the purified product so as to offer it a stable environment. Trehalose dihydrate is a non-reducing sugar that is commonly used as a stabilizing agent in biotherapeutic formulations under liquid and frozen states.
