We have examined three patients with cosmetically objectionable prominent veins in the lower eyelids. Segmental interruption of the vessels through multiple skin incisions has proved to be a satisfactory treatment.

Aims: The absence of objectionable micro-organisms in cosmetics and the efficiency of preservatives are still mainly assessed by time-consuming cultivation-based methods. We explored the applicability of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and reported on the behaviour of different bacteria in artificially contaminated creams.
Methods And Results: Real-time qPCR on DNA from Burkholderia cepacia, Pluribacter gergoviae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Sphingomonas paucimobilis identified specific primer pairs that amplify accurately and efficiently two strains/isolates of each species.
Whether Burkholderia cepacia complex should be an objectionable organism in antiseptic solutions with acceptable total bacterial counts is controversial. By using next-generation sequencing, we documented a polyclonal B. cepacia complex outbreak affecting peritoneal dialysis patients in Hong Kong that was caused by contaminated chlorhexidine solutions.

Background: A prominent mandibular angle (PMA) is a relatively common condition in Asians, and surgeons typically use the intraoral approach to treat it. Good manufacturing practice and efficient control on bioburden level of product components are critical parameters that influence the microbiological cleanliness of medicinal products. This contrasts with the Food industry where it is a commonplace to use a risk-based approach for ensuring microbiological safety.
