Hierarchically porous N and S co-doped carbon was prepared by using 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone as the carbon source, thiourea as the N and S source, and SiO particles as the template. Using the material as the catalyst, oxidative coupling of silanes with alcohols was conducted for the first time under metal-free conditions.

Background: Cerebral microvascular dysfunction and nitro-oxidative stress are present in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and may contribute to disease progression and severity. A pro-nitro-oxidative environment can lead to post-translational modifications of ion channels central to microvascular regulation in the brain, including the large conductance Ca-activated K channels (BK). Nitro-oxidative modulation of BK can resulting in decreased activity and vascular hyper-contractility, thus compromising neurovascular regulation.

This study introduces a novel methodology for the direct construction of tetrasubstituted centers, utilizing secondary C(sp)-H and C(sp)-H substrates, specifically indolin-2-ones and indoles, through an innovative oxidative cross-coupling reaction. Facilitated by a straightforward copper salt catalyst, this reaction proceeds efficiently at a mild temperature of 40 °C under operationally streamlined conditions. Emphasizing sustainability, this method is notably enhanced by employing air (molecular oxygen) as an eco-friendly oxidant.

The Ullmann coupling and oxidative coupling dehydrogenation reactions have occurred sequentially, catalyzed by Pd(OAc), which unexpectedly yielded fused imidazo[1,2-]phenanthridine derivatives in good to high yields. Structural analysis of the intermediate and final products indicated that the protocol did not include C-H and N-H arylation.

Rhodium(III) catalysis has been used for C-H activation of -nitrosoanilines with substituted allyl alcohols. This method provides an efficient synthesis of the functional -nitroso β-aryl aldehydes and ketones with low catalyst loading, high functional group tolerance, and superior reactivity of allyl alcohols toward -nitrosoanilines. We demonstrated that reaction also proceeds through the one-pot synthesis of -nitrosoaniline, followed by subsequent, C-H activation.
