is a model spice herb, well known for its medicinal value. It is primarily a vegetatively propagated commercial crop. However, considerable diversity in its morphology, fiber content and chemoprofiles has been reported. The present study explores the utility of EST-derived markers in studying genetic diversity in different accessions of and their cross transferability within the Zingiberaceae family. A total of 38,115 ESTs sequences were assembled to generate 7850 contigs and 10,762 singletons. SSRs were searched in the unigenes and 515 SSR-containing ESTs were identified with a frequency of 1 SSR per 25.21 kb of the genome. These ESTs were also annotated using BLAST2GO. Primers were designed for 349 EST-SSRs and 25 primer pairs were randomly picked for EST SSR study. Out of these, 16 primer pairs could be optimized for amplification in different accessions of as well as other species belonging to Zingiberaceae. GES454, GES466, GES480 and GES486 markers were found to exhibit 100% cross-transferability among different members of Zingiberaceae.

Traditional maize possesses low concentrations of provitamin-A and vitamin-E, leading to various health concerns. Mutant alleles of and that enhance β-carotene (provitamin-A) and α-tocopherol (vitamin-E), respectively, in maize kernels have been explored in several biofortification programs. For genetic improvement of these target nutrients, uniplex-PCR assays are routinely used in marker-assisted selection.

Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua (Duohua Huangjing, Asparagaceae in angiosperms) is a traditional medicinal and edible plant in China. Its rhizomes can potentially enhance immunity, reduce tumor growth and the effects of aging, improve memory, and even reduce blood sugar levels (Zhao et al. 2020).

Sex determination systems are diverse in echinoderms, however, our understanding is still very limited in this research field, especially for Asteroidea species. The northern Pacific seastar, Asterias amurensis, has attracted widespread concern due to its population outbreaks and high-risk invasions. Using whole-genome re-sequencing data from 40 females and 40 males, we identified a candidate sex determination region in A.

Background: The orf virus (ORFV) is a viral pathogen that primarily causes contagious ecthyma in humans and different ruminants. The infection, which is common worldwide, causes large-scale economic losses to animal breeders.
Objective And Methods: In this study, tissue samples collected from eight randomly selected goats with dermatological lesions on the teats were examined in different goat herds.

Current fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) studies primarily focus on alcohol's actions on the fetal brain although respiratory infections are a leading cause of morbidity/mortality in newborns. The limited studies examining the pulmonary adaptations in FASD demonstrate decreased surfactant protein A and alveolar macrophage phagocytosis, impaired differentiation, and increased risk of Group B streptococcal pneumonia with no study examining sexual dimorphism in adaptations. We hypothesized that developmental alcohol exposure in pregnancy will lead to sexually dimorphic fetal lung morphological and immune adaptations.
