In the presence of a catalytic amount of Ni(cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) and PCy (Cy = cyclohexyl), the cross-tetramerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), alkynes, and ethylene occurred in a highly selective manner to afford a variety of 1,3-dienes with a 3,3,4,4-tetrafluorobutyl chain. In addition, a Ni(0)-catalyzed cross-tetramerization of TFE, alkynes, ethylene, and styrenes was developed. These catalytic reactions might proceed via partially fluorinated five- and seven-membered nickelacycle key intermediates.

The semi-hydrogenation of alkynes into alkenes rather than alkanes is of great importance in the chemical industry, and palladium-based metallic catalysts are currently employed. Unfortunately, a fairly high cost and uncontrollable over-hydrogenation impeded the application of Pd-based catalysts on a large scale. Herein, a sandwich structure single atom Pd catalyst, Z@Pd@Z, was prepared impregnation exchange and epitaxial growth methods (Z stands for ZIF-8), in which Pd single atoms were stabilized by pyrrolic N in a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8).

Carbonaceous species, including subsurface carbidic carbon and surface carbon, play crucial roles in heterogeneous catalysis. Many reports suggested the importance of subsurface carbon in the selective hydrogenation of alkynes over Pd-based catalysts. However, the role of surface carbon has been largely overlooked.

Although the current nanozymes, such as FeO nanoparticles, exhibit biocatalytic activities, they dramatically differ from natural enzymes, lacking a degradable organic framework and an intrinsically flexible structure. Single-chain folding of a synthetic polypeptide by metal coordination can mimic metalloproteins more similarly. A triblock PEG-polypeptide copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)--poly(but-3-yn-1-yl glutamate)--poly(-butyl glutamate) [EG(Glu-yne)(Glu-tBu)], was synthesized by NCA polymerization.
