A strategy combining covalent conjugation of photosensitizers to a peptide ligand directed to the melanocortin 1 (MC1) receptor with the application of sequential LED light dosage at near-IR wavelengths was developed to achieve specific cytotoxicity to melanocytes and melanoma (MEL) with minimal collateral damage to surrounding cells such as keratinocytes (KER). The specific killing of melanotic cells by targeted photodynamic therapy (PDT) described in this study holds promise as a potentially effective adjuvant therapeutic method to control benign skin hyperpigmentation or superficial melanotic malignancy such as Lentigo Maligna Melanoma (LMM).

Purpose: Melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) is a rare, rapidly growing pigmented neoplasm originating from the neural crest. Predominantly affecting infants, it commonly occurs in the head and neck region. MNTI is often locally aggressive with a high recurrence rate.

Focal areas of reticular disruption have been described as one of the earliest dermoscopic signs observed. To describe a novel dermoscopic sign in LM, namely the presence of a parallel pigmented network.

Introduction: Melanotic schwannoma (MS) is a rare neoplasm composed of Schwann cells with melanosomes in various maturation stages. While MS is typically observed in spinal nerve roots or peripheral nerves, their involvement in intraocular structures is uncommon. Here, we present a case of spontaneous globe rupture as the presenting feature of intraocular extension of a MS.

Suppressing allele-specific genes using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) can effectively whiten skin by influencing cellular gene and protein expression. Topical delivery of siRNA is a promising alternative to injections for RNA interference. However, the barrier function of the skin hinders the effective penetration of siRNA.
