Synthesis of Polycyclic Imidazolidinones via Amine Redox-Annulation.

Published: December 2017

α-Ketoamides undergo redox-annulations with cyclic secondary amines, such as 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, pyrrolidine, piperidine, and morpholine. Catalytic amounts of benzoic acid significantly accelerate these transformations. This approach provides polycyclic imidazolidinone derivatives in typically good yields.

Plants respond to attacks by insects by releasing herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs), which are known to influence the behavior of natural enemies, conspecific and heterospecific insects. However, little is known about how HIPVs induced by one insect species influence the behavior of an allospecific insect species, particularly if these insects belong to different feeding guilds. Here, using the interaction of two co-occurring insects with different feeding guilds - Bemisia tabaci (a sap sucking insect) and Tuta absoluta (a leaf mining insect) - on potato plants, we report that T.

The molecular mechanism of transforming red light signal to (E)-β-caryophyllene biosynthesis in Arabidopsis.

Physiol Plant

January 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Bio-Energy Crops, Synthetic Biology Research Center, School of Life Sciences, Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

It is known that red light irradiation enhances the biosynthesis of (E)-β-caryophyllene in plants. However, the underlying mechanism connecting red light to (E)-β-caryophyllene biosynthesis remains elusive. This study reveals a molecular cascade involving the phyB-PIF4-MYC2 module, which regulates (E)-β-caryophyllene biosynthesis in response to the red light signal in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Reactivity of Anomalous Aziridines for Versatile Access to High Fsp Amine Chemical Space.

ConspectusThe manipulation of strained rings is a powerful strategy for accessing the valuable chemical frameworks present in natural products and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Aziridines, the smallest N-containing heterocycles, have long served as building blocks for constructing more complex amine-containing scaffolds. Traditionally, the reactivity of typical aziridines has been focused on ring-opening by nucleophiles or the formation of 1,3-dipoles.

The incorporation of ZIF-67 into hydrogels for wastewater pollutant remediation has been widely studied, but the synthesis often requires organic solvents such as methanol or ethanol, which can result in the generation of toxic liquid waste. In this study, a novel hydrogel (ZIF-67@SL) was synthesized by integrating ZIF-67 into a dual-network system of sodium lignosulfonate (SL) and acrylamide (AM) using an in situ precipitation method in water. The material was characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, SEM, TEM, BET, and TGA analyses.

Acenes are an important class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that have gained considerable attention from chemists, physicists, and material scientists, due to their exceptional potential for organic electronics. They serve as an ideal platform for studying the physical and chemical properties of sp carbon frameworks in the one-dimensional limit and also provide a fertile playground to explore magnetism in graphenic nanostructures due to their zigzag edge topology. While higher acenes up to tridecacene have been successfully generated by means of on-surface synthesis, it is imperative to extend their synthesis toward even longer homologues to comprehensively understand the evolution of their electronic ground state.
