Background/objectives: In an 18- to 24-month Treatment Phase with once-daily efinaconazole 10% solution, subjects with onychomycosis showed an increased rate of cure at Month 24 versus the phase III trials. In order to further improve efficacy, we initiated an extended intermittent efinaconazole Maintenance Phase with use 2-3 times weekly for an additional 24 months from Month 24 to Month 48. These are the first data presented for a 48-month efinaconazole use period.

Background And Objective: Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) is a promising tool for distinguishing lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) in clinical practice, and its detectable pathogen spectrum can cover more than 95% of clinical cases. but there is limited information on systematic evaluation of the clinical use of multiplex PCR-based tNGS (mp-tNGS) in IPA cases. We aim to assess mp-tNGS in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) for Aspergillus detection in suspected IPA patients, and to provide a reliable basis for initiating antifungal therapy without microbiological or histopathological evidence.

Fusarium keratitis (FK) is an important clinical condition that can lead to blindness and eye loss, and is most commonly caused by the Fusarium solani species complex (FSSC). This study evaluated the susceptibility of planktonic cells and biofilms of FSSC (n = 7) and non-FSSC (n = 7) isolates obtained from patients with keratitis from a semi-arid tropical region to amphotericin B (AMB), natamycin (NAT), voriconazole (VRZ), efinaconazole (EFZ), and luliconazole (LCZ). Analysis of clinical data showed that trauma was the most common risk factor for FK patients.

SUMMARYSporotrichosis is a subacute-to-chronic infection endemic to tropical and subtropical regions. It usually involves subcutaneous tissue but can occasionally cause extracutaneous infections, especially in hyperendemic areas. Extracutaneous infections are classified based on the anatomic location of the lesion and the route of infection (primary or multifocal).

We report the case of an 18-month-old boy who developed a phototoxic skin reaction to terbinafine on his scalp, ears, and face in the form of disseminated erythematous plaques, which resembled subacute lupus erythematosus (SCLE) in their clinical presentation. Skin changes appeared a short time after the boy was exposed to sunlight during the period of time when he was treated with oral terbinafine due to Microsporum canis fungal scalp infection. Tinea capitis is a common dermatophyte infection primarily affecting prepubertal children (1).
