Superconductivity from Domain Wall Fluctuations in Sliding Ferroelectrics.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Materials Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, Illinois 60439, USA.

Bilayers of two-dimensional van der Waals materials that lack an inversion center can show a novel form of ferroelectricity, where certain stacking arrangements of the two layers lead to an interlayer polarization. Under an external out-of-plane electric field, a relative sliding between the two layers can occur, accompanied by an interlayer charge transfer and a ferroelectric switching. We show that the domain walls that mediate ferroelectric switching are a locus of strong attractive interactions between electrons.

Marstacimab: First Approval.

Drugs

December 2024

Springer Nature, Private Bag 65901, Mairangi Bay, Auckland, 0754, New Zealand.

Marstacimab (marstacimab-hncq; HYMPAVZI™) is a subcutaneously administered human monoclonal immunoglobulin G1 antibody against tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) that is being developed by Pfizer for the treatment of hemophilia A and B. Marstacimab received its first approval on 11 October 2024 in the USA. It was approved for use as routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes in adult and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older with hemophilia A without factor VIII inhibitors or hemophilia B without factor IX inhibitors.

Arimoclomol: First Approval.

Drugs

December 2024

Springer Nature, Private Bag 65901, Mairangi Bay, Auckland, 0754, New Zealand.

Arimoclomol (MIPLYFFA™), an oral small molecule that crosses the blood brain barrier and is thought to upregulate CLEAR (Coordinated Lysosomal Expression and Regulation) network genes and improve lysosomal function, is being developed by Zevra Therapeutics Inc., for the treatment of neurological manifestations of Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC). In September 2024, arimoclomol was approved for use in combination with miglustat for the treatment of neurological manifestations of NPC in adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older in the USA.

Xanomeline/Trospium Chloride: First Approval.

Drugs

December 2024

Springer Nature, Private Bag 65901, Mairangi Bay, Auckland, 0754, New Zealand.

Xanomeline/trospium chloride (COBENFY™), formerly KarXT, is a first-in-class, oral, fixed-dose muscarinic agonist/antagonist combination being developed for use in schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease psychosis. Xanomeline is thought to confer efficacy by acting as an agonist at M and M muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain, and trospium chloride reduces the peripheral cholinergic adverse events associated with xanomeline. Xanomeline/trospium chloride received its first approval on 26 September 2024 in the USA for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.

Xeligekimab: First Approval.

Drugs

December 2024

Springer Nature, Private Bag 65901, Mairangi Bay, Auckland, 0754, New Zealand.

Xeligekimab (Jinlixi) is a recombinant human interleukin (IL)-17A-neutralizing immunoglobulin (Ig)G4 monoclonal antibody being developed by Genrix (Shanghai) Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of plaque psoriasis, axial spondyloarthritis and lupus nephritis. Xeligekimab binds to IL-17A and blocks its interaction with the IL-17A receptor, thereby inhibiting the release of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 and IL-6. On 27 August 2024, xeligekimab received approval in China for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.
